My commercial 45, which is mono, has a listed time of (3:00), but an actual time of (2:56).

Just today, I discovered that some pressings of the 45 are mono, while others are stereo. The matrix of the stereo pressing is 16343-S 1B. The matrix of the mono copy is simply 16343. The label does not indicate stereo, but the layout of the text is different.

Mono copy: ABC logo at top; copyright info at bottom; "45-16343 SP" below the catalog number on the right

Stereo copy: ABC logo AND copyright info at the top; "(45-16343)" appears on the left below the publishing information

I just checked my promo...copyright info is at the top (under
the ABC logo) on both the mono & stereo sides. Likewise
publishing info is on the left on both sides with 45-16343 on
the mono side and 45-16343-S on the stereo.
Matrix numbers also differ from your stock
copies...mono=16343-1A, stereo=16343-S 1A

After comparing notes with Aaron, we determined that the stereo stock 45 was a rogue vinyl pressing from Columbia's Santa Maria plant, which was the only plant used to press the vinyl stereo/mono DJ 45. The leftover DJ stereo stamper may have been utilized on stock copies by mistake or substituted for one of the worn-out mono ones to save costs.

Although L.A.-based Monarch was no longer pressing ABC or Dunhill 45s by this time, several of the other indies had not yet wound down contract production in the months leading up to the ABC's exclusive use of Columbia's facilities. The mono stock Aaron referred to above was an east coast Specialty pressing. My three Columbia Terre Haute styrene stock 45s were all mono.
