Pat, I own two different commercial 45s for this. One of them agrees with your current database notation; a listed time of (3:15), but an actual time of (3:37). But the copy I bought back in 1973 has a listed time of (3:15), but an actual time of (3:24). Both 45's long deadwaxes start with "M1280F-61417". But my actual (3:24) length deadwax ends with "18E-S-01B X", whereas my actual (3:37) length deadwax ends with "26B-RE-1-S-01B".

Comparing the two stock copies, the shorter is simply an earlier fade. The shorter copy also runs slightly faster, but it's negligible (only 6/10 of a second by the 3:00 mark). The short version begins fading at 3:09 on the phrase "words cannot explain." It finally fades all the way out at the end of Marvin's wail around the 3:24 mark. The fadeout on this one is what Yah Shure would describe as a "swordfish head fade." It fades pretty quickly and from 3:09 to 3:14, but then the song takes its sweet time finishing the final 10 seconds of the fade.
