Thanks to Google Books, it looks like the "Who owns the Adam Wade Coed masters?" mystery has finally been solved. On Page 5 of the June 2, 1962, issue of Billboard, the third paragraph of a piece with the headline "Open Season For Signing Disk Artists" reads:
"Another facet of the Adam Wade Epic deal was also brought to light last week. The Wade disks originally released on the Coed label will go to Epic as part of the signing deal and will be reissued on the singer's new label." There have been two multi-artist Coed label retrospectives released that I know of, one by Collectables in the US and one by Ace in the UK (I don't have either). This would explain why neither contains any Adam Wade material. |

Yes that info is correct. smvceo's info about re-recording
for Epic was not the case, Epic took possession of all the Coed tapes. The versions of "As If I Didn't Know" and "Take Good Care Of Her" are indeed simply alternate takes. FYI, one reason "As I Didn't Know" does not match the 45 is the 45 was edited together from several takes. Two of the splices on the mono master are rather obvious. MM |
