Bette Midler - Do You Want To Dance - Top 40 Music on CD Forum

While I don't have an original Divne Miss M to compare, I do have access to various CD pressings of this song, including this Deluxe
release. I also have the original DJ 45 which is mono/stereo. We never addressed this song in the database because the timing on both
sides of the DJ 45 are under the 3 second rule, but while the label on both sides of the mono/stereo DJ 45 states 2:44, the stereo side
runs 2:42 and the mono side runs 2:45. You'd think that means that the mono side is pitched a bit slower, but it's not, it's faster than
any other issue of the song that I'm aware of. The mono side of the DJ 45 sounds like a dedicated mono mix, with the bongos mixed slightly
lower on the intro, then higher during the bongo solo section (with slight reverb not noticable on the stereo versions) and background
singers are a bit higher through the entire song on the mono DJ 45. It's also EQ'ed brighter. I'm not sure if the mix brings out more of
the natural reverb of the session or slight reverb was added but it sounds like a little bit of reverb is on everything, including Bette's
vocal. One of the key differences is that the Mono DJ side doesn't have the same fast dump at the end of the song, which you hear on all
other CD issues and the stereo side of the DJ 45 (except for this alleged "single mix" on the deluxe CD). How does the new CD release reach
2:54? It fades closer to how the mono the DJ 45 fades, but isn't pitched up like the mono DJ 45, and has an extra second or two of music
on the fade out that even the mono DJ 45 doesn't have. There is also a slight pitch difference between the stereo DJ 45 speed and both
the album and alleged "single mix" tracks of "Do You Want To Dance" on this deluxe CD. Both are slightly faster than the stereo side of the DJ
45, but certainly slower than the mono DJ side. So I don't know WHAT you call this, to me it simply sounds like the same LP and stereo 45 mix
that's issued everywhere else except 12 seconds longer, 9 seconds longer than the mono DJ 45..but in reality you only hear a couple seconds more
of the song that the mono DJ 45, due to the speed difference on the mono 45. I suspect that somebody knew that the mono DJ 45 was longer and
this is an attempt to add a bonus track, which is probably really only a longer fade. If someone hears it differently though let us know!

	On the new 2 disc "Divine Miss M" from Rhino, "Do You Want To Dance" from Bette Midler on the 2nd CD runs 2:52 and labeled as the single mix. This would be 10 seconds longer than all the database entries. What is the difference between the 2?

	I compared my stock 45 and the Divine Miss M cd version of Do You Want To Dance to the new "single mix" on the Rhino CD disc 2. The main difference is a longer fade on the new Rhino CD. The fade runs about 10 seconds longer. The new "single mix" has more clarity and may have other mix differences, but there isn't an edit that accounts for the time difference. Both CD versions run just a tad faster than the 45.
