My commercial 45, confirmed as Montel 921 with deadwax info of "M-DGR-1", has a listed time of (2:13), but an actual time of (2:09). FYI, the many current database CDs that include the original recording of this song feature a wide range of actual run times, from (2:04) to (2:13).

Here's one for the class.

On vinyl V/A albums I had 2 mixes of this song, both mono
of course.

One was what I assume the hit version. Near the end right
after they sing "or are we through" at about 2:00 there
loud violins on the music part right before they sing the
line again.
But in the other mix, there are no violins at 2:00,
instead just backing singers that repeat "or are we
through." Note: you can hear those singers way in the
background behind the violins in the hit version. So I
guess the violins were overdubbed for the Montel 45.

I was wondering if anyone else ever noticed that and I
wondered where that other mix originated. I no longer own
any of my old vinyl V/A comps so I don't even have a copy
of it anymore.
Lastly I wondered if that alternate version has appeared
on any of the CD's in the database.

Mark, I've never heard the no-strings version, but did come across this item about the strings from author John Broven's book, Record Makers and Breakers: Voices of the Independent Rock 'n' Roll Pioneers:

(Montel Records owner Sam Montalbano) "added with pride that the overdubbed strings were his idea. He explained that the strings were double-tracked by three girls at Bill Holford's ACA studios in Houston to create the equivalent of a six-piece 'orchestra'."

(The un-dubbed recording had been cut at Carol Rachou's La Louisianne studio in Lafayette, Louisiana.)

Mark I found one cd that has the "no strings" version you are looking for and it is on Audio Fidelity 6002 Super Oldies Of The 60's Volume 2. I assume the V/A vinyl LP you previously owned with this specific version was on Audio Fidelity also.
