As a supplement to Jim's informative promo CD single info, Ed was good to pass along that his commercial CD single copy of Babyface's "Every Time I Close My Eyes" has an actual and printed run time of 4:11 and states "Radio Edit" on the CD label.

I'm assuming the "Radio Edit" on both the promo CD and commercial CD single are without Kenny G? The only version I ever heard on the air was the one without Kenny playing sax.

You're right, Aaron. Kenny G's saxophone is indeed edited out of the single version, which is interesting given that Joel Whitburn's Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits 1955 to 2000 gives a credit in fine print to Kenny G on saxophone. If I'm not mistaken, information regarding each Top 40 single listed in this publication is supposed to be based on its respective commercial single release.

Pat:

I thought I'd bring to your attention that the database is currently missing a CD listing for Babyface's "Every Time I Close My Eyes". The song appears on:

Kenny G Greatest Hits (Arista 18991 and presumably also on Arista 18994)

It has a run time of 4:56.

The version of "Every Time I Close Me Eyes" that appears on Kenny G's Greatest Hits cd is not the LP version that appears on the Babyface cd "The Day" and that is why I never listed it in the database. I have just added it to the database as a "neither 45 nor LP" version because it has created some confusion as Todd pointed out.

Pat:

I just did a more careful comparison of "Every Time I Close My Eyes" between the Kenny G Greatest Hits CD and the Babyface The Day disc (Epic 67293) and you're right... they're definitely different versions. While Babyface's vocal appears to be the same take on both (at least during the first 2:53), the mix differences can readily be detected during the intro and throughout the entire recording. That said, I agree with your decision to include the Kenny G Greatest Hits listing in the database with a "neither the 45 nor LP" comment as that will help lessen any confusion for subscribers.

Does the Kenny G album version remove Mariah Carey’s vocals? I
heard this on an XM countdown today and something seemed missing.
They often play album/nonhit versions so it doesn’t surprise me that
this wasn’t the single version, but it sounded like Mariah was missing or
buried in this mix.
