Back in 1982, I worked at Billboard Magazine in New York
where my job was to call radio stations across the US to
get their weekly playlists. When on holding when calling
a country station, I was very surprised to hear what
must have been a tape playing of "I've Never Been To Me"
by Charlene with a steel guitar added to create a
country mix. I've never heard this version again.

Does anyone know anything about this version? I do know
that it has never been available on vinyl or CD (though
a version by Charlene sung in Spanish has been
released).

Wow, both those sound interesting. I'd buy either one of those on vinyl if they are available. I know the Spanish version has appeared on Youtube.

The Spanish version "Nunca He Ido A Mi" appears on Motown Latino white label 45 1624LF 63563-LAT (deadwax 1624MF-A-6656315B). Listed 3:57; Actual 3:58.

Does the Spanish version have the spoken part over the
bridge like the 1982 reissue English version does?

Yes and no. The words are different (she talks about her husband in the Spanish version) and the monologue is shorter. It is at the same time as the English version.

I ordered the Spanish version on 45 today. I hope it comes out as a bonus cut on CD some day.

I'd sure like to know more about this version. I know Charlene a little (she recorded a song of mine in the mid '90s) and the song's composer Ken Hirsch - I'll ask each of them if they know about it. Ken might be more likely to know, though I tend to doubt either has a copy of the version.
