I'm seeing these Points listed on the left hand side. That made me go to the Memberlist, where it used to show the # of posts people had posted, some people had many thousands. Was this data all lost, Aaron, during the course of updating the website? That's a shame, if that's the case.

The forum software now displays points instead of posts. If you want to see a member’s number of posts, you will find that in their profile.
Here's what the point system is based on (all are the default settings): Create New Topic: 2 points Post Reply: 1 point Post Answer/Resolution: 5 points (This is currently set to 'admin' but I can change it so that all members can mark a post as an answer/resolution.) Thanked: 5 points |

Interesting! I'd like to suggest for the Memberlist page, you also include # of posts (there's room after the 'date joined', for instance) and that you also restore the Sort options we had before, such as by # of posts, etc.

The forum is not custom built. It's made by a company in the UK that offers it for free. You just download the software and install it on the server. We went from version 7 (circa 2005) to version 12 in one update, and all the changes you see are things that Web Wiz modified in the last 20 years.

Oh wow! First of all, that's a huge change - 20 years in one update.
So I get that they may have gotten rid of the sorting options. But they deleted the "Posts" column (and replaced it with points?) That seems odd that they randomly deleted a column, if I'm understanding you're correctly. |

I can see your posts in your member profile when I click your username. It currently says Posts: 2258 [0.30 posts per day].
On the Memberlist page, yes, it appears they have swapped out "posts" with "points," and I'm guessing it's because they added a point system somewhere between version 7 and version 12. The sorting options are still there, though. I can click on a header, and it will resort the column. You can also use the yellow arrow to change the sort order from A-Z to Z-A. |

Ah OK, I see how one can sort now. I'm just getting used to the new system, having "reconnected" this morning. And I thought you came up with the Points system - I didn't realize they did, and that it was them (not you) who swapped out "posts" with "points" column on the Memberlist page. But hey, as you explained, it's free software so we can't complain :)

Yes, exactly. The paid database was custom built for Pat, and I paid my web developer to do all the updates you see. I'm extremely happy with how it turned out, especially considering he had to work with someone else's 20-year-old code and implement all the changes I was looking for.
The forum has always been "free" software, even going back to when the site was first launched in 2004. That's why there's a separate login and a totally different look and feel from the searchable database. |
