I have a feeling you will be hard pressed to find a stock 45 that runs 4:45 or 4:46 unless somebody is clocking the record on a old belt drive turntable that's running a tad slow. I just did a spin of my stock copy (Cat# PB-13800), Matrix PB-13800A-12 and it's clocking in at 4:43 on a direct drive deck with pitch at 0. |

I thought the issue was that nobody could put their hands on a 45 that
ran longer than 3:49 (despite the stated run time being 4:46). Fastphilly, are you saying that you have a 45 that runs 4:43? Edited by JL328 |

What appears to be in play here is that stock copies early in the press
run contained the shorter radio edit. Since my copy has a later/higher matrix# than the copies that contained the short version it looks like RCA never had the commercial labels printed up for the time discrepancy. Yes my copy runs 4:43 I bet the pressing plant used the stamper that was intended for the promo and mistakenly used them to press up stock copies. Perhaps the gaffe was noted later into the press run which is why you see later pressings with the version that matches the listed timing but even that is off by three seconds Edited by Fastphilly |

Coincidentally, I have two stock copies of
"Who's That Girl," and each plays a different length. One is on styrene with a trail-off number of PB-13800A-3; this one plays the short (3:49) version. The other is on vinyl with a trail-off number of PB- 13800A-14; this one plays the long (4:43) version. The long version has an extremely long fade-out, which may account for the time difference if the LP version is actually 4:46. |
