I notice so far in the CD era all that has been released
for this song (domestically) is either the LP version or the LP version minus the intro and outro footstep sound effects. I'm wondering if the 45 version (on the Buddah label) is an edit of the LP version. Actual run time info for the 45 would also be helpful for this song that was a #1 R&B hit in the summer of 1975 (as well as a pop top 40 hit). I see on youtube someone has a label scan that looks like a listed time of (3:20) and sounds like the song ends cold on the drum roll with no sound effects at the start or end. Santi, my commercial 45, confirmed as Buddah 470, with handwritten
deadwax of "BDAS-470-A" with a circled "2" after that, has both a listed and actual time of (3:20). My 45 starts with a slow, solo guitar segment, and ends with the drums.

It's just one edit to make the 45 version:
Remove 2:47.1 to 3:50.6 of the LP version (sans intro and outro FX, like explained above). You'll cut out the lead singer's "Hey, hey, mister...dream merchant") and pick it back up again with the backup singers singing the same thing in the next chorus (with the lead vox eventually coming in with a "Mister dream merchant!" over top the singers).
