Bumping this thread up to make an observation.
My local Hot AC station in Philly (Star 1045) played a version of the song that cuts the part from 3:48 to 4:13, where Steven Tyler begins to scream the chorus. Since I can't find any listing for this special version on Discogs, I'm assuming that it was an in-house edit. Did anybody else do this? |

If I had to guess, I'd say this is an in-house edit from the iheartradio
central library. The Star station in Dallas is playing the same edit. Bill Cahill might know the origin, but I do not believe it was ever issued officially by Columbia with the screaming part edited out. |

I should've clarified this was back when the song was a current in 1998. The station was owned by Chancellor. |

I'm pretty sure that "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" was never issued officially with that screaming section edited out. I don't believe that
the song was serviced to AC radio as a current. But sometimes Adult Contemporary Radio Programmers ignore songs when they are currents, as they are too "rough" or whatever, but then a few years later determine that they are playable with some editing. I assumed the source was TM Century Gold Disc (they would sometimes make a later edit for AC for oldie play) as I had access to it in the early 2000s, but it could have come from Chancellor and then floated around elsewhere. |

The only two versions of the song in the TM library are the "Pop Mix" and the "Pop Radio Edit No Orchestra Intro." I checked both versions, and they have the screaming.

I believe it was served to AC and Hot AC as a current, as it peaked at #13 on Billboard's AC chart and #2 on the Adult Top 40 Chart. |

The stock 45 offers a curious lineup but at 14 minutes, it delivers
excellent value. Side A has the Pop Mix followed by “Animal Crackers,” a mix of movie dialogue along with themes from “Miss a Thing”. (Like the CD single, it has a third track, “Taste Of India” on the B side.) This brings total running time on the side to nearly 8 minutes, which surprises me. I would think jukebox operators, who bought most 45s by 1998, wouldn’t be thrilled with the quieter grooves, or that it cut into profits — after all, longer songs mean less revenue per hour! |

The song made it to #41 for the year at AC Radio for 1998, but I didn't start programming at AC Radio until 1999. I just don't remember ever
running into a label supplied edit that had the screeching cut out, maybe somebody else has. Edited by Bill Cahill |
