David was kind enough to send me a copy of the Gene Pitney "I'm Gonna Be Strong" track he downloaded from I-Tunes... Judging by the consistent level of hiss present throughout the recording, I agree that the song was probably dubbed from a tape source. However, given the loudness of the hiss and the song's somewhat overall murky sound quality, I wouldn't be surprised if this came from a second or third generation tape.
It would be nice to see Gene Pitney's Top 40 hits all finally surface in their mono mixes on CD. Any chance the folks at Real Gone Music would ever undertake such a compilation? |
