Fantastic year of music. Been working to put it together accurately from positions 1-475 on Billboard and if anyone has input or where to find CD/Digital source for some of the harder to find hits please let me know.

The following don't appear to be on CD at all. No 45. No LP version. No 12'' Nothing in the 2026 "Digital" world of commercial USA CD releases. If I'm wrong as Peter Frampton says Show Me The Way.

214 Niteflyte - If You Want It

Did find this on Two Slow to Disco 2 on CD in Europe from 2015

https://www.discogs.com/release/7223727-Various-Too-Slow-To-Disco-2

Self Titled LP

https://www.discogs.com/release/9209298-Niteflyte-Niteflyte

Various artists - Free Soul Impressions

https://www.discogs.com/release/579182-Various-Free-Soul-Impressions

279 Funky Communication Committee - Baby I Want You
353 Cheryl Barnes - Easy To Be Hard
363 Nancy Brooks - I'm Not Gonna Cry Anymore
389 Randy Brown - You Says It All
400 Zwol - Call Out My Name
450 Bama - Touch Me When We're Dancing
453 Wonder Band - Whole Lotta Love
471 Liner - You and Me
474 Bill Wray - Pinball, That's All

Otherwise I've been able to locate an LP, 12'' or something that came out for everyone but the above artists.

As for LP versions these don't appear on CD or digital anywhere

396 Taka Boom - Night Dancin'
452 Keith Herman - She's Got A Whole Number

Same for these 12''

186 Wet Willie - Weeknd (Special Disco Version)
208 Crusaders - Street Life (Special Full Length US Disco Mix)
366 Philly Cream - Motown Review
396 Take Boom - Night Dancin (12'' Short version Disco Intro)
433 Ultimate - Touch Me Baby, Love Is the Ultimate, Dancing In The Night (Short 12'' Promo)

This bodes well for the Top 40. As I stated before, any help is appreciated.

Also as an observation or two:

Maxine Nightingale - (Bringing Out) The Girl In Me - All digital transfers are mono and sound horrible. The actual 45 sounds great and is in stereo.

Joe Jackson - Is She Really Going Out With Him? - The 45 is very mono pretty much (either that or barely stereo if any) and that reflects on the digital transfers. So unless you do DES stereo this appears the only track that is in mono in the year.

Thanks in advance as always for your help.

"Is She Really Going Out With Him" is in stereo, although very narrow stereo. That's the way it was mixed for the LP and 45, and it's accurately reflected in the digital versions. I wouldn't characterize it as "mono".
There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

It is not "full" stereo as the other 474 songs are. When I think of "narrow" stereo I think of CCR and their early songs or other 70's tracks like the Raspberries.

I didn't say it wasn't mixed that way or that it was not the 45. I pointed out it needs DES to actually sound like stereo. Compared to the rest of 1979 it sounds about as dull as it could get.

Again you are entitled to your opinion as always and what you want to "characterize" as stereo isn't when compared to the other hits of the year. Do you believe it to be a mastering error Ron when it was put to the 45 back in 1979?

As always if you know of any CD source for the above I would be elated to find it and would greatly appreciate any contribution you have. Thanks.

For what it's worth, A&M released "Is She Really Going Out With Him" as a white-label stereo/mono promo 45, here:

https://www.discogs.com/release/1616152

Reiterating my earlier comments, the song is in stereo, albeit very narrow stereo (the background vocals are panned), much like the single releases for "Turn Turn Turn", "Mr. Tambourine Man", "Lodi", "Listen To The Band" (stereo only in the break), and much later, "The Edge Of Heaven" (the guitar solo is panned, all else is centered).

Hi

Easy to be hard by Cheryl Barnes is from the Hair Soundtrack which is available on CD. Is the version any different from the one released as single?
