Girl Come Running - Four Seasons

   A nonmember of this website has emailed me with a great question that I should enter here for comment.  Dan Asvitt writes to tell me that he notices two different versions of "Girl Come Running" by the Four Seasons on cd.  He points out that his version of "Girl Come Running" found on Rhino 74266, the Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons Anthology is stereo and has a different introduction than the mono version found on the Four Seasons 25th Anniversary Collection.  I just listened to this song on my copy of "Anthology" and it is dead mono with the same introduction as all other mono cd releases.  So question number 1 is, has Rhino remastered this "Anthology" disc to now include "Girl Come Running" in stereo?  My matrix number on disc 1 of "Anthology" is 74266-2.1 01.

Now here is where things really get convoluted.  Girl Come Running first appeared (I believe) on the vinyl LP Gold Vault Of Hits and I have a copy of that vinyl LP which is supposedly stereo.  I do not believe the song is stereo on this LP but (E) with the introduction the same as the vinyl 45 and the cd's which I indicate in the database are mono. There is one cd which I indicate currently has Girl Come Running in stereo and that is the Time-Life cd, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons: 1962-1967 and this cd does feature a different introduction where the vocals start at :01.  So question number 2 is has this narrow stereo version of "Girl Come Running" ever shown up on vinyl in stereo with the abbreviated introduction?

	Hi Pat, The stereo mix of "Girl Come Running" first appeared on the Philips 2 record set "Edizione D'Oro" ("Gold Edition" - with the gold cover) in 1968. The were 4 other songs on this set that the stereo mixes were unique to the set, at that time. When originally mixed in mono they left the vocal track turned down until they start the chorus. For the stereo they left the vocals in repeating "Come on baby" over the intro. There was also a similar situation with the stereo/mono difference with "Dawn (Go Away)" - they left group vocals over the drum part of the intro where the mono had none. This two record set was the first appearance in stereo for "Girl Come Running", "Ain't That A Shame", "Rag Doll","Dawn" & "Let's Hang On" (with the latter 2 missing their slow intros). "Save It For Me" had appeared in stereo before, but was remixed for this set. Ace UK reissued this album on CD several years ago with all tracks in their mono 45 mixes, except the 5 stereo versions that were unique to the set. ("Rag Doll" is in mono because the stereo mix has appeared on other cd's....) The version of "Girl Come Running" on Gold Vault Of Hits is the 45 mix rechanneled. 	Good background information Mark. Does anyone know which version appeared on the mono pressing of "Edizione D' Oro" (if there was a mono pressing)? Still need to know if anyone has the stereo version of "Girl Come Running" on Rhino's "Anthology" cd #74266

	I just picked up a brand new copy of the Four Seasons Anthology (Rhino 74266) and "Girl Come Running" is still mono so I guess that cd has not been remastered. Does anyone have a copy of this Anthology where this song appears in stereo?

	Pat: I just pulled out my copy of the Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons Anthology on Rhino 74266 and "Girl Come Running" is definitely in mono on my set.
