A similar effect is quite noticeable in the intro of this song as well. I remember when playing it back in '70 thinking it was actual cueburn (Liberty records were pressed on pretty cheap styrene and were very prone to cue burn), but I've heard it on CD issues too. Maybe Sugarloaf was way ahead of their time, witness the fake scratches, etc. on many 90s (mostly urban) songs.
