My commercial 45, which is mono and confirmed as A&M 929, has a listed time of (3:55), but an actual time of (4:02).

At present, all database CD entries for Herb Alpert's "This Guy's in Love with You" run :04-:05 shorter than the commercial 45 time Jim was good to report above. Does anyone have a copy of Alpert's 1968 vinyl LP Beat of the Brass who could pass along the song's run time on it? I'm wondering if the 3:57-3:58 length that routinely shows up on CD is a reflection of the actual LP length?

"This Guy's In Love With You" on the vinyl LP "Beat of the Brass" that I have is a Japanese pressing, and have the actual running time of "3:58." This track is the same as the song on the US pressing LP "Four Siders"

Thanks, abagon! We seem to be one step closer to confirming that the LP length is indeed :04 shorter than the 45 length. All we need now is to confirm the song's run time on the U.S. vinyl LP pressing of Beat of the Brass.

I'd also be curious to know if there's a speed difference between the 45 and LP that might at least partially account for the 45 running slightly longer?

Speed is the same on both 45 single and LP, The 45 single has a longer fade than the LP does. I am comparing USA originals of both, both pressed by Columbia for the East Coast.
I turn up the good and turn down the bad!

Thanks for putting this one to rest, KentT! Evidently, all domestic CD releases to date of "This Guy's in Love with You" have come from the LP length master.
