Is the proper 45 version for this available on any CD, perhaps an import? I notice Pat says in the database that all US CD issues are missing some reverb and overdubs. I do have it on a UK Reader's Digest comp, "Sounds of the Sixties: 1967," but I have nothing to compare it to.

Brian, I can't be 100% certain but I think the overdub version is on "The Best Of The EMI Years, Vol 2" (EMI CDP 7-97043-2. What tipped me off was at 2:13, the word "tonight" seemed to be double tracked on the 'night' syllable. I'm sure there's something more noticeable and identifiable, but this is what did it for me. If this is the US 45 and LP version, is the other one the UK version? And if so, why do we find the US version on a UK import?

i have a best of cd by herman's hermits issued in germany on the cedar label as cd-27200835-b which, to me sounds like the proper 45 version.....my vinyl 45 for the song is pretty beat up, but, it does sound identical to me.....this compilation also has the mono version of "east west" which is only listed in the db as a stereo version.....if anyone needs these version for their review, drop me a private message and i will send it on out....

If you're looking for a cheaper place to get the stereo mix of "There's A Kind Of Hush" (Cheaper than Abkco 88422 O.S.T. Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter/O.S.T. Hold On!)there is now a budget issue. Apparently Abkco has finally dived into the budget CD business, (there is an Animals release too) but for Herman's Hermits they've issued The Very Best of Herman's Hermits, Abkco 8900-2, a 10 track discount bin CD that sells for five bucks at retailers like Best Buy. The only stereo track is "Hush".

Can anyone confirm if the version of Herman's Hermits' "There's a Kind of Hush" appearing on all domestic CDs to date (missing some reverb and vocal overdubs) is actually the U.K. version?

My file source is "The Best Of The EMI Years: Volume 2,
1967-1971." It has the double tracked vocal Robert mentions. Guess this is the U.S. 45 version? |

I have both the CD Robert mentions above and the CD Ed mentions. To my ears, the version on the UK CD Robert mentions is the US 45 version, but the version on the German CD Ed mentions is not.
The most noticeable difference I detect is that on the 45 and on The Best Of The EMI Years Volume 2, the words "are falling in love" at 2:18 are double tracked, while on the Cedar CD, No Milk Today - Herman's Hermits Best, these words are single tracked. Both CDs do contain the elusive US 45 version of "I Can Take Or Leave Your Loving". |

Is the mono U.S. 45 version available on CD anywhere? |
