I have two separate promo 45s for this. For now, I'm only going to report the listed times, though, as several different versions are involved here. In such cases, I've come to rely on the expert ear of Aaron K. I'd prefer to have him listen to these 45s first, and then have him add the exact particulars. The first promo 45 we got in for this has a listed (4:39) version on one side of it, which is very likely the same version that is found on the commercial 45. The other side, however, has "Small World (Part One & Two)", with a listed time of (7:39). The second promo 45 we got in for this song had a sticker on the Chrysalis 45 sleeve, saying "LISTEN UP! John Luongo's Hot New Remix - VS7 1354". Since neither side of the first promo 45 mention Luongo at all, and BOTH sides of this second promo 45 do, I assume that both sides of this second promo are unique mixes. One side has "Single Remix", with a listed time of (4:43). The other side has an "Edit of 12" Dance Mix", with a listed time of (3:46). More to come...

I have this same promo, though I wonder if it may be a UK pressing. It's a 7" with a small hole, like a 33. Oddly, the short version is pressed at 45rpm, and the long version (side B) is pressed at 33. Is yours like this, Jim?

No, Eric - mine is absolutely a U.S. promo 45, with a normal 45 spindle hole in the middle, and a stock # of Chrysalis VS4 43306. Both sides play at 45 speed. My other promo 45's stock # is VS7 1354.

Here's some details on the Parts 1 & 2 side of the promo 45:

- The "false end" occurs at 4:00 with the horn solo starting at this point.
- When comparing this section of the song to the commercial 45, there are parts edited out of the commercial 45. This "Part 2" is just an instrumental jam that goes until (7:30), which is the actual time of the song.

The "Single Remix" on the promo 45 Jim mentions above has the same structure as the commerical 45, but it is definitely remixed. The drums have more punch, and it's just a better mix. The actual run time is (4:43).

The flip side of the promo 45 with the "Edit of 12" Dance Mix" has a similar feel to the "Single Remix," but it starts off with just drums and has some different sections that aren't a part of the "Single Remix." The actual run time is (3:46).

Regarding "Small World", the database has been updated with the well-documented promo single info in this thread. I just wanted to also note that commercial 45 copies have an actual run time of 4:40. (Timing info compliments of abagon. The printed record label time is 4:39.)

With the latest Huey Lewis and the News Japan reissues, it
appears that the promo only "Single Remix" of "Small World"
has been forgotten. Does anyone know if this "Single Remix"
has ever made it to digital or CD anywhere?

Wasn't that on the 2006 "Greatest Hits"?

I think it's also on the 3CD "Collected"
import I have.

EDIT:
Oops, never mind. I just now read the rest of
the thread. So apparently the Single Version
and Single Remix are two different versions.

I also looked on YouTube, but couldn't find the "Single
Remix" or "Edit of 12" Dance Mix". I'd like to hear them
myself.
