My commercial 45, confirmed as Challenge 59246, with deadwax info of
"CH 1085- 1C-", has a listed time of (2:42) and an actual time of (2:43). Pat has already included a note about a (2:59) LP runtime. Five of the 9 current db CDs that include the original recording of this song do run between :02, either way, of that LP timing. All of the other four, however, which run between (2:46) and (2:48), have a "run much faster" note attached. I normally do not like to include so much "db note info", as I believe such notes are part of the benefit of subscribing, in the first place. My apologies, Pat. I just wanted to point out that no db CD comes within :03 seconds of my 45's timing. Does anyone else happen to own this original 45 and a shorter CD length source? Perhaps my 45 also runs much faster than the LP version of the song. Unfortunately, just like my Danny Williams import hits CD currently is, my Jerry Wallace hits CDs are also deeply buried, preventing a comparitive listen against my 45 right now. Edited by jimct |

This is one of the few Jerry Wallace hits available on CD
which is not severely sped up. The LP is sped up over the 45 single a bit. |

Jim I do not really understand your point here. The 45 and LP are essentially the same speed but the LP is :17 longer than the 45. Any cd entries that run say (2:47) are obviously taken from the LP length master tape and sped up. If you want the 45 length just fade any of the LP length entries and you will recreate the 45.

Pat, my point was general confusion! Like I stated earlier, I could not listen to
my buried CD versions, to compare against my 45. Based on your db notes, it was not obvious to me that the 45 and LP versions are essentially the same speed. Not that you've worded it a different way, I now understand. Thank you for the clarification, Pat. Sorry to have bothered you. |

The transfer done for the Curb Jerry Wallace Hits
collection was very sped up. The Collectables CD versions play at 45/LP speed and in excellent true Stereo. Sorry for any confusion. Edited by KentT |

I'm confused on this one with respect to the speed issue. I know the 45
fades earlier than the LP, but, is there a speed difference? KentT mentions the LP was sped up, but seems the opposite is true? Here's why: I have the TL CD "Your Hit Parade - The Early 60's", which is indicated as LP length. I have a rip of the track from "Complete Original Hits", which with no indication, I assume to be 45 fade point (it fades at 2:45 not 2:43 (!), which matches exactly a mono version I was sent a while back assuming to be the 45). To determine if there is a speed difference in various versions, I can usually tell just by listening (the pitch is different). To prove it, I usually go to the end of the song and listen for a distinct part, then compare at which point in time they both are. For this track, I checked out the vocal "any place is...alright" toward the end of the song. On "Complete Original Hits", the "alright" occurs at 2:37.5, while on TL YHP, it occurs at 2:40.5. That's a speed difference! It's also clearly evident in the listening. So, something isn't jiving here for this track. If I assume "Complete Original Hits" is accurate, then the 2:59 TL version is slow, which either means the LP was slower, or the TL is and is short a bit of the 2:59 LP length. I know we have a 3-second rule, but I believe that applies mostly to "content length" - we treat speed differences differently. Wish I didn't need to bring this up, but my analness in my collecting hobby requires me to. :( |
