This sounds like a prime candidate for yet another issue of "Radio Daze" Pop Hits Of The 80s Vol. 6. or, maybe another issue of Yacht Rock. I have been bumping into a number of these
tracks while browsing the threads around here. 1979 - 1981 truly was a transition period for pop. Re-watched Xanadu for the first time since that hot date back then too.
<Dave> Someone please tell I-Heart Radio that St. Louis is not known as The Loo!

Could you kindly recheck to see if your LP is an
original 20th Century Fox Records pressing?

The reason I ask is the 'Version 1' YouTube version
you linked is the same as my Japan CD 'Passage'
version which Jim Photoglo re-recorded in Nashville
with a publishing date of 1993. Totally different
musician and production credits were on this CD and
Jim's vocal register was lower because he was older.

I would love to hear a needledrop of your version, if
indeed it is circa 1981.

Great song!!

Andy

Andy, check your inbox. I sent you an mp3 of a dub I
did years ago from MY 20th Century LP. I did see this
version posted on Youtube showing the "Passage" CD. I
noted it was really the first version from 1981. I don't
know how or why it ended up on that 1993 Japanese CD.

Check out other posts on YT. I'm not the only one who
had the first pressing, there are others. But the 2nd
pressing appears to be a bit more common. The 2nd
pressing version is also what was re-issued in Japan.

Ok, Andy and Ron looked into this further and I believe
my memory did not serve me well on this one. The version
I called the 1st pressing LP version I now believe is
from the 1993 Japan CD "Passage"
Two things messed me up here:
1) It's a total mystery to me how the 1993 remake got in
my library where my LP disc dub should have been.
2) Multiple posts on YT seemed to support my info
because they all picture the original LP but have the
1993 remake as audio.
And as Andy pointed out, not ONE of those YT posts has
any evidence of vinyl. So I was like yeah...that would
be impossible.

Anyway, sorry for the false alarm - there are in fact
only TWO 1981 versions. The LP mix and the 45 mix.

Interesting history.

And a weird thing. Just as I finished reading the latest posts on this thread, a Jim Photoglo song started playing on my iPhone, a song from his 20th Century LPs (CDs) called "20th Century Fool".
