Here's another one to drive us crazy... TWO 4:00 VERSIONS OF "LOOKING FOR A NEW LOVE"!

The first one can be found on JCD-3171 Only Rock'n Roll #1 Radio Hits 1985-1989. If I had to take a guess, I'd say this is the 45 version, but I don't own the 45 to verify.

The other mix (and yes, it's a completely different mix) can be found on 20th Century Masters and Billboard Hot R&B Hits 1987. Here's the difference:

The one on the Billboard disc that I suspect is NOT the 45 version...
1 - has an electronic tamborine in the right channel that is not present in the other mix
2 - has some extra drum beats right before the first verse starts that aren't in the other mix
3 - does NOT have an electronic "bell" sound in the right channel during the synthesizer intro, whereas the other one does

It's also important to note that neither one of these is mixed exactly like the LP Version, so one is not simply an edit of the LP Version. For instance, the LP Version has some "huuuhhhs" over the intro to the song, whereas neither one of these versions do. And the only reason I'm suspecting the Only Rock'n Roll disc to have the 45 mix is because this version also appears on my TM Century library, on which it sounds like it was dubbed from a vinyl source.

Any takers on this one? Which one is the 45 mix?

By the way, the book indicates "45 Version" for all of CDs I mentioned above.

Aaron I went through all of the cd's with what I thought were the 45 versions of "Looking For A New Love" and here are the cd's that are neither the 45 nor LP version:

Rhino 72159 Black Entertainment Television 15th Anniversary
Rhino 72142 Billboard Hot R&B Hits 1987
K-Tel 3673 The 80's - Funky Love
Cold Front 3832 Club Mix - Women Of Dance Volume 1
Priority 51048 Chart Toppers - R&B Hits Of The 80's
MCA 088112395 Best Of: 20th Century Masters
Hip-O 314556758 I Want My 80's Box!

You are correct in that the version on JCI 3171 is the 45 version.

Aaron, would it be possible for you to send me an mp3 file of the "non 45" 4:00 minute mix found for example on the 20th Centuy Masters CD?

I was able to download the mix, great find Aaron!

Upon listening to it, except for the initial "huuuuh"'s which as you say are missing on the intro, the rest of the mix sounds like a shorter album version.

I always recall the radio station playing the album version with the huuuh in the
intro. I have the short album version with the huuugh in it in my collection. I
never knew there was a different version of it which is the 45. They all
sounded the same to me. I have other versions of this song without the huuuh
in the intro but not sure if it's the 45 version.

Is the correct 45 version on the "MCA Hits Sampler" Vol.
2 disc? I understand that collection is comprised mostly
of Single Versions.
