Thanks for all the responses.

I more carefully reviewed hit songs from 1/76 to 1/77, to compare the
45v vs longer 45v's and/or LPv's I heard as the go-to current version on
my #1 local Top 40. There were a number of them, such as the (4:53)
"Love To Love You Baby", the (5:15) "She's Gone", the LP versions of
"Fooled Around And Fell In Love", "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing",
"Lowdown", "Baby I Love Your Way", "Take It To The Limit", "A Little Bit
More", and "Evil Woman". Since they weren't matching my stock 45
versions, that fact jumped right out at me back then. Whereas, in the case
of "Disco Lady", it never did, because I wasn't in radio yet, and what they
were playing on-air happened to exactly match my stock 45.

Thanks for helping me finally get up to speed on what most Top 40
listeners were hearing on radio in 1976!

Can anyone shed any more specific details on how to recreate the dj edit, please?

Duane, I have just shot out the DJ 45v to you, for your analysis. My
recollection was that the most notable differences between the stock and
promo 45 occurred early, in the song's opening seconds, during the long-ish
instrumental intro. But please feel free to share more precise details here,
after you've given what I sent you a listen.

It was an odd edit. Most songs, when edited would be cut
from a 4 bar intro to 2, in this case I believe it's cut
from 4 to 3 (and not an great edit either) plus at least
one more edit later in the song.

Having just heard a copy (thanks to a fellow board member), I agree that it's an odd edit. It doesn't sound smooth at all, either. It's one of those edits that if you were trying to recreate from instructions, you'd really need to have a copy of the original handy to ensure you nailed it.

Anyway, that's another one off the list. :-)

Heard the promo edit for the first time this morning. That edit on the intro is terrible.

"Disco Lady" was my favorite song of 1976 and FWIW, I only recall hearing the full 45 version on the radio. Of course, it's possible that I heard the DJ edit, but just blocked it from my memory. Did I mention that edit on the intro is TERRIBLE:)

I have the promo 45 and when I first heard the edit intro I thought it was
a skip. Played the mono side and that confirmed it was a lousy edit.
