I have an import UK 45 for "Walk A Mile In My Shoes." It
still has the phasing issues, but when summed to mono,
doesn't seem to lose key instrumental parts of the song vs.
U.S. pressings.

Thanks for passing that UK 45 information. Interesting.
I turn up the good and turn down the bad!

Bill,

I can't find a copy of this mono at all for my 1970 top 40 assembly. Can I take a listen of your losses dub? Thanks

I'm brand new here and just wanted to say that these year-by-year lists have really helped me. Many thanks for the time and effort put into this.

It actually helps create an accurate representation of what was available when it was released. You would believe that stereo was the release if you didn't know better.

Personally from 1970 on I like the stereo versions. The drop downs in mono have very little uniqueness to them.

I'm just noting that while the Jackson 5's Huge #1 I'll Be There is available in stereo at 3:58, the mono runs 3:44. Just documenting the difference and wondering if its an edit or early fade that can be recreated to create a proper stereo 45 to match the mono...

I believe the mono mix of "I'll Be There" runs considerably faster than the stereo and also fades a little sooner?

Also the mono 45 of Simon & Garfunkel's Cecilia is 2:39 and there Stereo LP version is 2:55. Another considerable difference. Wondering if its a different mix, early fade or edit....

Re: Cecilia, Todd Ireland posted the following in another thread:

Ok, I've done an A-B comparison between Jim's commercial 45 of "Cecilia", which is mono, and the stereo mix on Simon & Garfunkel's Best of CD. The 45 does run slightly faster than the LP and the acoustic guitar is more pronounced throughout the 45, while barely audible at all during most of the stereo mix. Meanwhile, the stereo mix contains someone whistling at 1:07, which is not present on the 45. Pat has updated the database to reflect that the 45 and LP are different, but I thought I'd elaborate on the specific differences alleged for this song earlier in this thread.
