I wish I still had my Spun Gold 45 for the 45 version of
"Freak-A-Zoid" to create a lossless file. All I have is a 320 bitrate mp3. Somehow, I now only have a promo 45 with "No Parking On The Dance Floor" on both sides. Has anyone found the 45 version on a CD? |

Not on CD in its 45 version but you could recreate it.

I just received a promo 45 that differs from the other promo in my collection. This one has a printed time of 3:39 and actual time of 3:19. It states "Edited Version" on both sides. The other promo simply states "Edit Version" and runs 4:05.
The opening sound effects and spoken intro have been edited off vs. the 45 version, so the song begins on the snare hit right after "get with it." You can still hear the siren sound effect in the right channel after this snare hit, just before the synthesizers begin. There are no other edits, but the song fades earlier than the single version. The fade starts at 3:06 and ends just a hair shy of 3:20. I'll call it 3:19.8. It fades to silence right before you'd hear the next "no parking baby" repeat (which would occur around 3:45 of the longer LP and stock 45 length). |

Thank you for the info on the other promo 45. One of the
rare times when the track duration is actually shorter than what's printed on the label. Edited by promojunkie |

Was this a later promo edit than the first Edit Version? |

In many cases, a reservice promo 45 will contain a shorter edit than the initial promo 45 that contains a version that mirrors the stock single. Keep in mind that both the first promo and a reservice promo 45 are serviced to radio while that song is still current on the charts. It was more prevalent in the 70’s . In the 80’s a mono side for AM wasn’t needed so labels would press promo 45’s with a standard single version b/w a promo only radio edit instead of having to press up different promos with different edits. As for the Midnight Star promo specifically, Solar may have serviced the regular single version promo to R&B/soul radio, while CHRs received the edited intro promo version. |
