Off topic but this song listed in Whitburn's 1950 annual listing does not appear to exist. I've searched everywhere.

Anyone have it, know where it is or can find a 78/45 of it?

Thanks in advance.

Don't bother looking for it...it's a copyright trap that doesn't exist.

I sort of wondered why it didn't exist ANYWHERE. Thank you. I take it that it helped Mr. Whitburn catch people?

Disappointing... with a title like "Bewitched," I was looking forward to adding it to my Halloween station. :-D

Wild.

Can anyone point out any other examples?

(No, "Ready 'N' Steady" by D.A. doesn't count...)

Coincidentally, I recently came across another copyright
trap listed in Wikipedia for the rock band Charlie:

"Note that in earlier editions of Joel Whitburn's
Billboard chart books, a Charlie album called Fifth Flight
is listed as having charted in 1981 at #99. This album did
not exist, and never charted — its inclusion in Whitburn's
book is either an error or a deliberate copyright trap. In
any event, later editions of Whitburn's books (post-2006)
make no mention of it."

There are a few more sprinkled in various books over the years. I know them all, but it's more fun when people find
them for themselves.

For the record, I was never a fan of them and most have since been purged from subsequent editions.

Yea when we can't find the track anywhere Paul I will remember to email you first about it. Did Joel really worry about people breaking copyright on his work that he had to throw in fake chart hits to ward them off?

PS A copyright trap in a 1950 annual listing? I'm probably one of the few here who noticed it since I was trying to collect every 50's annual hit....

Copyright traps are common in reference works, but as I said, I was never a fan of putting them into the Record
Research books. I always felt that most of our readers would see them as "mistakes" and therefore they would reflect
poorly on the books overall. In the end, we never did find anybody who copied those fictitious entries to any great
extent, thus defeating the whole purpose of putting them in the books in the first place (and why we subsequently
removed them). While we always strive for perfect accuracy, with the millions of data points in a typical Record
Research book, some minor typos or typesetting errors are bound to occur. I wish our customers could see some of the
initial printouts I run and then how much effort goes into proofing and editing the final product. Which is why we're
sometimes late on our initial projections for getting a project done on time.
