In an interview the band said the song was imagined as a
couple making love while the atomic bombs are dropping
all around them...hence "I melt with you"
Kind of a mood killer if you ask me....but hey if they
have time to a last one in..... go for it.:-)

MM, you'll remember it was the 80's and the Russian Bear
was everywhere at the time!

I thought Mark had obtained the stereo single mix done in 1982 for the Eric release. I was not under the impression that it's digitally extracted stereo.

That’s 100% correct, Aaron.

The 1982 45 was extremely narrow stereo, and we all assumed it was
mono. (Someone discovered this and posted in the other thread. I
don’t remember who posted this off the top of my head, though.)
There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

Yes Ron and Aaron are both correct. We got a digital
transfer of the song from 4AD in the UK from the master
BEFORE it was folded to almost-mono.
If you try to expand the Sire 45 master using digital
tools, the result sounds odd with phasing (I tried).
BUT, it's enough to show there was stereo info in it.

BTW, we didn't specifically ask for stereo, we only
asked they locate a first or early generation master for
the single mix. And low and behold we got the real
stereo before it was messed with. I was VERY pleased. I
think my jaw dropped.

Wow, Mark! I knew almost all this story, except that you lucked into getting a stereo mix of the single version. I thought you asked them if there might be one, and they found it. Didn't realize you were just asking for a first generation and got a stereo one sent! Cool. I wonder why no other compilation used or asked for an early tape. It's been on a lot of comps I think.
