I noticed that the database lists the version on "Best of: 20th Century Masters" as the 45 version. However, I own the promo CD single from 1988 (CD45-17542) and it is clearly a different mix. The most noticable difference is that the 20th Century Masters version has a reverb on the vocal track, while the promo does not. The promo version, which sounds like an edit of the LP track and times in at 3:51, also fades out several seconds later than 20th Century Masters. Does the 45 truly include the reverb to the vocal track, thereby making the promo CD single a unique mix?

My commercial 45 (MCA 53264) does not seem to have reverb on the lead
vocal. The time is listed as 3:39, but times out to 3:48. |

For what it's worth, my TM Century disc has the LP edit you're talking about. I always thought it was their unsuccessful attempt at creating the 45 version, but this is interesting new information.

I happened to be at the used record store this weekend, but didn't come across a copy of the 45 to compare directly to the CD single.
If anyone would like a dub of the CD single to compare, just let me know and I can email a copy... |

I just compared my 45 with the cut on the 20th Century Masters CD and the way they've tampered with the vocals on the CD does make them sound substantially different.

So, it's sounding like the versions in the database that currently say "45 version" are actually "neither 45 nor LP version." I believe the track on their Hits CD is also the one with the different reverb on the vocals.
Does anyone have a stock 45 that has the different reverb? It wouldn't be the first time where there's more than one commercial 45 version. |

Thanks to some assistance from Jim, it can be concluded that the "remixed 45 version" comment should be changed to "dj 45 version" or something to that effect. The version with the echo/reverb differences on CD are actually the "Busby Edit" that appears on the promo 45.

Good work, Aaron! It's always nice to see a mystery mix or edit on CD turn out to be a radio version.
Does anyone specifically recall hearing this remix of "If It Isn't Love" on the radio? I believe my local stations played the commercial 45. |

If I understand correctly, only the LP version & the Busby edit are available on commercial CD. The 45 edit was released on a promo not generally available to the public.
Can the LP version be edited down to the 45 version? If so, can you lay out the specific edit points? |
