Why can't he rely on the information provided on this forums by all the members? We provide accurate information.

Like I said, I think it's time to do away with that 'rule'. But that's my own personal suggestion. Music is now global, and many reissues are coming out of the U.K. without ever been released in the U.S.

I think many of us would like to see the database expanded, but it opens up a big can of worms for Pat and has the potential to cause a lot of problems.

For instance, let's say "Step By Step" is listed on 50 different CDs in the database. 23 of those discs are ones he actually owns. 27 of them are imports where the information was provided by other members. A few years go by, and someone discovers that some CDs contain a slightly different mix from the LP version. Pat would then have to go back to everyone who provided him with the info for the 27 CDs he doesn't have to be able to verify which have the LP version and which have the alternate mix. Otherwise the database contains 27 CDs that may or may not have an accurate notation for "Step By Step."

Another scenario is that a member provides inaccurate information about which mix is contained on a CD. If Pat enters this inaccurate info into the database, and a paying subscriber spends $20 to buy said CD, and then that subscriber finds out that the information is actually wrong, he might be a little upset that he wasted $20 on a CD that Pat had listed as having the proper version.

As you can see, it's not as simple as "he should include imports." He has paying subscribers to consider and the integrity of the data to maintain. Who would want to subscribe to a database that is full of errors?

That's one of the functions of the chat board. We can
discuss and share info on any imports, non Top 40 hits,
etc, etc.

And that is a great point Paul brings up. Sometimes the only way to find a certain hit is an import from another country. At some point I agree there has to be a line drawn and the fact that every CD listed in the database has been verified is exactly why Pat is 1 million times more reliable for me then discogs when seeing track listings, mono or stereo or running times. Knowing these things makes it priceless.

I know Pat does not post on here much, but I give him a big thank you for the site, the board and the ability to find top 40 hits on CD. Not only that but Pat's database in electronic form beats any book that one could buy. I think the electronic database is a better idea than a book in this instance.

The chat board pretty much covers anything that needs more clarification or research. Personally I believe there will be a point where the CD's won't be carried in Target, Walmart or chain stores and the entire dynamic of how we get music will be digital. It's already starting to happen when #1 singles like Old Town Road are not put on a CD and are unavailable unless you go digital. That makes Pat's site even more valuable for what is out there. I guess as long as their are NOW CD's and they sell well there are people who will embrace the "retroness" of it.

Older post, but does anyone have instructions on re-
creating the hit version? Thanks in advance.
