I agree that was unfortunate along with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Joni Mitchell. I don't know how Spotify would tell you a certain song would be removed. It would be nice with Youtube videos I save that get removed or set to private. There are other reasons why songs disappear (or greyed out, depending on your settings). I've noticed that they can disappear, but then reappear due to a re-release. Some disappear and reappear in a week for no reason. Ever since 2017, I've kept a playlist of all the songs of the 1980's that charted on the Billboard Hot 100, that Spotify has. The ones that aren't on Spotify, you most likely won't find anywhere aside from YouTube.I can't find any of Peter Wolf's early solo efforts or some artists' songs from movies: "Hole In My Heart" Cyndi Lauper, "Twistin' the Night Away" Rod Stewart. Even all of Toni Basil's songs are re-recorded. Regardless, I can add the missing songs to local files. I will say that streaming music apps as a whole, have come a long way, especially in the increase of songs available on them. |

When a song is removed from Spotify or Pandora, usually it's grayed out, compared to the other songs. I guess this must be the default setting for both platforms, as I don't recall doing anything to set them to gray. I guess you're saying for some people, the song just completely disappears.
I've been listening to Pandora a lot lately, making playlists and radio stations. While I'm enjoying it very much, it's frustrating that some songs and albums are "Radio Only" - they can't be added to playlists, and it's extremely hard to hear them. As far as I can gather, these are albums that used to be readily available digitally but have since been removed (for the most part) on, for instance, Spotify. Maybe Pandora moves them to "Radio Only" instead of disappearing them completely. I do know what you mean about "albums disappearing and reappearing in a week". Gary US Bonds' 1st 2 '80s albums were "Radio Only" when I started getting into Pandora again. Then just a couple weeks later, both albums were available as regular albums you could hear. If anyone else has theories as to why some albums are "radio only", I'd like to hear them. And one last thing, when looking at a Greatest Hits (or even a regular album), if it contains a song from a movie, it's often grayed out as completely unavailable (not even "radio only"), and I'm sure this is due to the contractual agreements made between the movie companies and record companies. Sadly, digital platforms weren't around when many '70s and '80s albums came out on CD. Edited by EdisonLite - 19 hours 22 minutes ago at 11:19am |
