I picked up this compilation CD entitled "Old Skool Hip Hop." It's a 2 disc
set featuring Newcleus's "Jam On Revenge." It runs for 5m 6s but I'm not sure if this is the official edit. I question this edit because I actually picked up the CD for the short version of Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" but it's not the 45 edit on the disc. |

I was looking at a few V/A compilations I had and ran across a 100 Hit, 5 cd set called "80's Weekender."
The version of Rockit on that set runs 3:40. A quick dash over to 45 Cat and I see that there is a "Short Version" listed as 3:37 and a "Long/Album Version" that runs 5:22. I looked in the database and discovered that this apparently wasn't a song that qualifies for entry. I suppose this may be the 45 version on my set, though I don't have quite enough information yet. (Yes, I know this original post was in 2007.) I also read that this is a UK release on the CD cover. Demon Music Group DMGN 100 115 (Sony) |

I realize this is devolving into a discussion of “Rockit” as opposed to “Jam
on Revenge”, but in scrutinizing whether the edit of “Rockit” is ‘official’, note that the UK and US 45 edits are different. The UK edit made it to a whole lot of comps, even in the US, and was dominant in the marketplace for a long time, though over the years, the ‘correct’ US edit has become more widely available. All that to say that if you’re using “Rockit” as a barometer of whether a comp contains true 45 edits, consider that it may be the UK edit and not a rogue, truly incorrect version. There’s a thread around here that discusses “Rockit” in more detail, but basically, the US and UK 45’s are the same up until a certain point (around the 2 minute mark or later) but then diverge due to being different edits of the same long album version. |

Has it been determined if a 45 version of Jam On Revenge is
available on CD? |

Jam On Revenge.
Is this the same song as Jam On Revenge (The Wikki-Wikki Song)? I also see an entry in the GoldDisc database as "Jam On It (7" Version.)" This version credited to Newcleus as well. Somewhere in my V/A discs I'm remembering seeing that Wikki-Wikki title. I need to pull up a version and see what it times out as. |

listed time of 3:55 with a notation of "A Jam-Packed Jonathan Fearing Edit." I have the 45 version of "Jam On It" from 1984 on a collection called Great 70's Dance Grooves. |
