I don't remember radio playing this track from 1988's "Lovesexy" at all, and Wikipedia backs that memory up, not showing it even touching the lower rungs of the Billboard Hot 100.
There appear to have been two attempts to get radio to pick it up: the original edit (3:28) which was released on 7" promo single and promo CD single, and a remix / edit (4:22) which appears to only have been released on 7" vinyl. Does anybody remember hearing this on the radio or playing this on the radio, and if so, which version was played? Edited by NightAire |

Warner Bros. sent my college station a promo CD single (PRO-CD-3181) with the 3:28 "Edit" and the 4:40 "LP Version".
We didn't like the song very much, so we didn't play it (and we loved "Alphabet St." (PRO-CD-3079)). I didn't know that the 4:22 "Remix/Edit" (on PRO-S-3211) even existed until right now. This wasn't really a hit, so I don't think any one version would qualify as the "hit version". |

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

I have the promo 45 with the remix/edit. If I recall correctly, it's similar to the 12" remix, but it's dedicated mix and not just an edit of the longer 12" remix. I agree with Ron that neither one would be considered a hit, but if I had to pick one, it would be the "Edit" (of the LP version).

With no technical "hit" version, it's tempting to cut of the synthesized "strings" at the end. If you don't know the song you don't know it should be there, and it feels like it brings the song to a screeching halt.

Peaking at #44 on Billboard's R&B charts, it does appear that "Glam Slam" got a little bit of airplay, mostly on the
Rhythmic CHR stations. I certainly never heard it on the radio (and I was in the Twin Cities at the time!). |

I was working in the backwoods of Maine in the summer of
1988 - I recall hearing Glam Slam on the Bangor CHR. Also, Glam Slam did spend a few weeks on Radio & Records' significent action column for CHR (maxed out at 34 stations) Edited by cmmmbase |
