This track that went to #35 on the rock charts is listed as 3:06 for the LP length and 2:49 for the edited single.
Can anyone confirm if I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister on the single / promo is an early fade or an actual edit? Edited by NightAire |

I'll pull my promo 45 when I get a minute to check for you. I'm pretty sure the US stock 45 has the full length 3:06 version.

Correct. I've seen it used on this board to say, "I have a question about a song that didn't make the Billboard Top 40 pop chart." I know of no better place to go to find specific details of relentless accuracy on single versions and radio versions. :-) BTW, Aaron, you're correct that there were single releases of "I Wanna Rock" that are identical to the album length... HOWEVER... The 12" vinyl Atlantic – PR 643 and the 7" Atlantic – 7-89617 both list a run time of 2:49. (Both are listed as a promotional / promotion copy, so I suspect these only went to DJs, not record store shelves.) The 12" calls its version the "VOCAL/EDITED VERSION" while the 7" calls it the "edit of Atlantic LP 80156 'Stay Hungry'." (I can't imagine them being different, just differently labeled.) Hopefully this clarifies why I believe there really WAS an edit / early fade sent to radio stations... although the benefit of getting the record to less than 3 minutes in 1984 escapes me! |

Thanks to Aaron, I can now confirm the radio promo is both and edit AND an early fade!
Take out about 1:56 to 2:05, editing on the "rock!" The fade starts about 2:34 on what remains, right on the "rock!" of Dee Snider's "I wanna rock!" (This is where he and the band start echoing each other in double time.) The fade runs about 14 seconds. At about 2:48 & 1/2, Dee Snider is shouting "rock" in response to the group's, "rock!" (They've been doing that for a while and keep doing it a little longer.) If your final version has Dee's "rock!" just past 2:48, your edit runs too long. I hope this helps somebody!
