This was apparently only released as a commercial Cassette Single and Promo CD Single in the US. No running time listed on Discogs for the Cassette Single, so does anyone here have it and can confirm its running time? There is a notation on the back cover and on the cassette itself that states, "Original Version appears on the forthcoming Elton John To Be Continued...Box Set MCAC4-10110", so I assume this means that the single contains an edit or some other version, and what's on the box set is the "Original Version".

Here are the Promo details:

Elton John - "You Gotta Love Someone" CD45-1135

1. You Gotta Love Someone (4:23)
2. You Gotta Love Someone (4:57)

This peaked just under the Top 40 (#43) in 1990 and #1 Adult Contemporary. I don't think there were any other mixes for it, so if the single is shorter, I would guess it's either an edit or early fade.

The Cassette Single was also single-sided, which seemed to be a rarity at the time. MCA was the only label I ever remember seeing do that with singles, but there may have been others.

I never knew there was any other timed version but the one on the 1990 Elton box set referenced in your post.....

The video features a unique edit of the song, in which a
latter section is repeated.

I have the cassingle, and its length matches what is on
the UK import CD single, which runs a second or two
longer than the version on "To Be Continued."

Thanks for that information. That brings up the question as to why they made the notation of "Original version appears on...." if the only difference is a few seconds from what appears on the box set.

Not sure. The difference is, on the US cassingle and the
UK CD Single, there's a faint extra "you gotta..." from
the choir at the tail before it ends.

So on "To Be Continued," it ends with "Ohh, you gotta
love someone..." end. On the cassingle and CD single,
it's "Ohh, you gotta love someone (You gotta...)" end.
