My commercial 45, confirmed as Columbia 44553, has both a listed and actual time of (2:27). I only post this info because the two current database entries that contain this song (which are in stereo), both happen to run a little shorter, at (2:22) and (2:23). Does anyone own the 1968 LP "Something Happening"? I suspect that the stereo version appearing on there also runs shorter, and that the 1968 mono 45 features a unique, slightly longer version of the song.

It runs 2:23 on my "Something Happening" LP. From the fresh listen I just gave it, I'd say the mono 45 would be well worth having even without regard to the run time difference. I don't recall ever hearing the mono mix except on the radio years ago, but it would have to sound better than the stereo mix with Mark's lead vocal panning all over the place!

I've heard both and I believe it's worth having the mono mix for the punch and presence I remember hearing on the radio in 1968.

Thanks for the timing info, gentlemen! Does the 45 simply run a few seconds longer than the LP, or is there a speed difference that figures in here? Also, are the mix differences between the 45 and LP significant enough to warrant "LP mix" comments in the database?

I never heard much difference between the LP and 45 mixes, they both even dip down in level when the vocal starts.
