Although the jewel case artwork uses the commonly-referred-to song title (the one I've typed in under "subject"), the title printed directly on my promo CD single is longer. Also, this promo contains some "CD rot" on it. Our other copy (still at the station) had the rot problem also, so it must've been a bad MCA production run. Luckily, I noticed this problem early, and I was therefore able to dupe/transfer all its audio contents onto a CD-R for safe keeping. So if anyone's looking to track this particular promo CD single down, proceed with caution. Anyhow, here are its details:

Pebbles-"Giving You The Benefit Of The Doubt" (CD45-18517)
1-(7" Version) (listed 4:28; actual 4:27)
2-(LP Version) (listed 5:40; actual 5:39)
3-(Audio Video) (listed 5:00; actual 4:59)
4-(Extended Club) (listed & actual 7:41)

The commercial vinyl 45 has the actual running time (4:27) and the listed time "4:28" (MCA 79079). Probabley, the 45 is the same as the "1-(7" Version) (listed 4:28; actual 4:27)" from Jim's report.

I have the 45 too and it's a US pressing. It is indeed the 7" radio version.

Can I ask if track 3 of the promo - Audio/Video is an instrumental version , or an edit of the song that is just like the edit heard in the video(with a cold intro) ?

Welcome to the board! Track 3 from the Pebbles promo CD single starts exactly like the music video and Extended Club version with a portion of her vocals acapella. The music then starts to build, and it eventually matches the 7" Version for most of the song.

The official video on YouTube only has a run time of 4:33 compared to 4:59 of the promo CD single version, so the actual music video has been edited down from the 4:59 Audio Video version.

Without going into too many boring details, the thing to note is that the Extended Club, Audio Video, music video, and 7" Version are all derived from the same mix. Essentially, the Audio Video version is a combination of the Extended Club and 7" Version, but none of the shorter versions are straight edits of the Extended Club mix.

This promo cd single might have been manufactured by
Discovery Systems. They made limited runs of promo
titles and many ended up with laser rot.

My copy of the promo CD single is not manufactured by Discovery Systems, but it does have a slightly cloudy playing surface. I believe this is on the plastic surface, though, and not on the information layer. It plays without any issues.
