although not a top 40 hit back in 1986, it is/was one of my all time favorites......does anyone know what the run time of the 45 is and if it can be edited down using the full length 5:40 cd/lp version....

Ed - the "45" of Give Blood on Atco 99577 had a list time of 3:20 (more like 3:17). I don't have the White City CD (or any Pete Townshend comp), so I can't help with edit points, but I could send you a dub...

I still haven't managed to get my turntable hooked up, so I can't actually listen to it at the moment, but I have the promo version of this 45. FWIW, it has a listed time of 3:20 on both sides, which it identifies as an edit of the LP version. The matrix number on both sides is ST-86C-49077-1, and my copy was pressed by Specialty Records (which, at that point in time, was owned by Atlantic/Atco's parent Warner Music and generally handled all of Atlantic/Atco's pressing for the eastern half of the U.S.).
I also have this song on a Pete Townshend compilation CD entitled "the best of pete townshend: coolwalkingsmoothtalkingstraightsmokingfirestoking" (Atlantic 82712-2, released in 1996). The version of "Give Blood" on that CD is listed at 5:38 but actually runs a second or two less than that (when playing the track on my CD player, I hear the "heartbeat" in the intro right from 0:00, but the last time that actually displays is 5:37, and the music has become virtually inaudible by that point). It was also manufactured by Specialty, which I believe Warner Music was using for pretty much all of their vinyl and CD pressing by then. Edited by MCT1 |

I just compared a dub from Chuck's 45 to the LP/CD version, and the intro of the 45 is uniquely mixed. There would be no way to edit the LP version to create this version. I did not listen further to see if there are other mix differences.
