Here's another song where all copies of the hit "strings" version are lossy, including the full-length album. The original "no strings version" sounds just fine, though, and appears to have been mastered correctly.

Hmm, is the MusicGiants single lossy? It looks okay to me. I bought the stand-alone single from them back when it was available.

Brian, your file doesn't look lossy. Mine looks different than yours. Just to confirm, this is the version with strings, right? Would you mind sending that to me when you have a chance?

Yep! It's the actual one-track digital "45" purchased from MusicGiants back in 2007. Edited by Brian W. |

Well, this is certainly an unexpected twist! The file Brian just sent to me is a completely different recording from the "strings" and "no strings" versions available on CD. Both the guitar and vocals have been re-recorded on this version.
Is the MusicGiants version the same one released on iTunes and amazon? Does it also match the promo CD single? We played the CRAP out of this song for months at my former station (the strings version), and I had never heard the alternate take until now. |

The stand-alone single is still available on iTunes. (Though I will say the 3:46 listed running time matches that of the MusicGiants single.
The version from the "Hey There Delilah" EP on iTunes (which was also released as a CD single) lists the running time as 3:52, though from the sample it does appear to have the violin. HOLD IT: There's a SECOND one-track single on iTunes that says it also runs 3:52. It lists the release date as May 9, 2006. The 3:46 single lists the release date as May 1, 2007. If those dates are correct, then, since it peaked on Hot Digital Songs on July 14, 2007, the 3:46 version would be the hit version. (And that's what I remember seeing as number one on iTunes anway... I don't recall ever seeing the earlier single cover art until just now.) Edited by Brian W. |

So, what's the conclusion as to the "hit" version for this one?
The original downloadable single appears to have been a totally different recording, which I presume is not on any of the full-length CDs in the database. (It is TBD which version is on the CD EP.) I've never heard this version on the radio. The promo CD apparentely has the lossy "strings" version (same one that was issued as a bonus track on "Every Second Counts"). This is the one played on the radio and on the video. |

TM Studios originally released the 'No Strings' version in the spring of 2007. They put a non-described version on the GoldDisc, which is probably the 'strings' hit version.
They also list a NEW VERSION in their database. Not sure if that is also the 'strings' version. |

Does it list a running time? The re-recorded "45 version" is about five seconds shorter than the other "strings" version. |

TM always lists "air time," which is not the total run time of the song. For the "new version" they have an air time of 3:48, so it's not likely the re-recorded single version.
