In case you have heard about it, Stereo Explosion Volume
11 - 50s and 60s Pop Classics is the latest installment
in the Hit Parade series of collector's discs providing a
nice variety of music that was the mainstay of the pop
music charts during those last great days of 50s style
music.
There is no doubt that American popular music changed
about 1964, and that year is frequently cited as the
cultural beginning of the 1960s. So, this new release
let’s us step back just a few years before that and
listen to some of the best some of our favorite artists
had to offer.
The first batch of songs on the disk contains some new
2024 Stereo Mixes of eleven songs previously issued over
the last decade. Let’s face it, technology has improved
greatly and it’s to Hit Parade’s credit that they have
embraced this new technology to bring us, the fans, some
great sounding stereo. You will find these selections

The Surfaris’ “Wipe Out”, probably the most identifiable
instrumental of the 60s, starting out the disk with a new
2024 stereo mix. Busting out of both speakers with a
clarity unmatched on any previous commercial issue. The
engineers were able to separate the drums and sharpen the
focus so you can hear it crystal clear and appreciate the
musicianship of these young players. How young? They were
all in high school when the record made number one.
Some of the newly remixed songs are favorites by The
Crystals; The Chiffons ; The Cascades; Jimmy Clanton;
Gene Pitney; The Contours; Sam Cooke; The Majors; and
others. I was especially glad to hear Steve Lawrence’s
Columbia hits “Don't Be Afraid Little Darlin’”, and “Poor
Little Rich Girl” which I own on their original 45s with
a drawing of the artist on the actual record label.
A word about the stereo presentations, you will find it
uniformly excellent throughout the disk making it a
valuable addition to the Stereo Explosion series. I

FYI, track 20 by the Crystals is "There's No Other (Like My Baby)" from late 1961. When the songs on this CD were added to the database this one was missed.

In addition, also missed was "Guess Things Happen That Way"
by Johnny Cash and the "Sun Records: 25 Classics" disc.
