I saw there are only 18 1970s top 40 songs & 12 1980s top 40 songs not on US CD, according to the database. I thought I'd list the songs I know of that are either on import CD, or digital download - from tape sources. 70s: ANDY KIM 1970 BE MY BABY ANDY KIM 1974 FIRE, BABY I'M ON FIRE -both on the Andy Kim CD "Baby, I Love You - Greatest Hits" (EMI/Germany) ("Fire, Baby..." is not the single edit, but album length) FANNY 1975 BUTTER BOY - LP version on the CD "Rock and Roll Survivors" (Cherry Red/UK) MARSHALL HAIN 1979 DANCING IN THE CITY -on the V.A. comp "100 Hits Super 70s" (Demon/UK) WEDNESDAY 1974 LAST KISS -on the Wednesday CD "Last Kiss" (Unidisc/Canada) WILTON PLACE STREET BAND 1977 DISCO LUCY (I LOVE LUCY THEME) -12" Version on the V.A. comp "D.J. Disco Mix Vol. 2" (Beast/US) where all tracks are segued together 80s: BARRY MANILOW 1982 OH JULIE -on the Manilow CD "Here Comes the Night" (Arista/Japan) CLIFF RICHARD 1981 GIVE A LITTLE BIT MORE -on the Cliff Richard CD "I'm No Hero" (EMI/UK) GREG GUIDRY 1982 GOIN' DOWN -on the V.A. comp "The Very Best Of AOR" (Kat Family/Japan) -it's also on the Greg Guidry CD "Over the Line" (Sony/Japan) (which I don't have) JIM PHOTOGLO 1981 FOOL IN LOVE WITH YOU -on the Jim Photoglo CD "Fool in Love With You" (Vivid Sound/Universal/Japan) JIMMY RUFFIN 1980 HOLD ON TO MY LOVE -on the V.A. comp "25 Years of Rock 'n' Roll 1980" (Connoisseur/UK). Note: there's another version with the same title, label and UPC Code that doesn't have this song -dj edit on "Ocean Drive 4" (Ripete/US) ROBBIE PATTON 1981 DON'T GIVE IT UP -on the digital release "Lost Hits of the 80's (Vol. 2)" If anyone wants to fill in the other '70s & 80s songs not on US CD, please feel free to share the info, and I'll add it to this list. Hi! I could add Sonny Charles "Put it in a magazine" in a european compilation released in December on the PTG label from 1983 (#40 in BB). Compilation is 80s Soul classics #8 (PTG 34262). At 3:59 it guess it is the LP version. On the other hand Robbie Patton "Distant Shores" album which includes Don't give it up was released in 2000 by French label Magic Records. "Don't give it up" sounds a lot better in a 6 cd compilation (in 3 double cds) from the Philippines: Best 100 Music from the Eighties. Official release from EMI Philippines released in 2007. |

In 2000, I had bought (and then sold) that "Distant Shores" CD from France, as it was from cleaned vinyl, where the removal of vinyl also removed much of the music and sounded awful. I'm not even sure if it was a gray-area bootleg, though I recalled it included "EMI". That's why I didn't include it. Though I don't need a great sounding "Don't Give It Up" now, I'd be curious about getting the Philippine CDs you mentioned, but I couldn't find them in Discogs, from that title. Can you give me more info so I can hopefully find it? Added the other entry to my original post. |

The Robbie Patton is in CD 4 from this compilation and number is 5099 9509 28422. I purchased it back in the day and contains EMI- Capitol International hits only (notably some unusual tracks like Industry's "State of the nation" and Private Lives "Living in a world". I'm very sure it is a legit release. If you send me an email I can send you a photo. Regarding your other comment I have a few CDs on the Magic records label (from the EMI/Capitol label). Some were never released on CD on any other label, like the last Michael Johnson album "Lifetime guarantee" from 1983. I'm sure they are not bootleg releases although the quality is not good. |

Hi Raul, I just sent you a PM. I tried finding that VA comp on Discogs doing various searches but had no luck. Maybe the CD isn't even on there. I'm sure you're right about the Robbie Patton CD. I'm glad you mentioned Michael Johnson "lifetime guarantee". I checked and I do have that CD on Magic Records, distributed by EMI/France. I'm surprised the sound quality is so bad on these EMI/France CDs - but maybe they didn't even try to get master tape copies from EMI/USA and just decided to clean up the vinyl. |

| I have yet to find a digital release of the single version of "Loggins & Messina - Thinking Of You" from 1973 on CD or digital download. It's an entirely different recording than the LP. |
