Pat:
I just read your review of the latest of yet another Neil Diamond compilation, this one called Gold (Geffen B0002906). You note that the live 45 version of "Cherry, Cherry" from Hot August Night is on it. Recently, I downloaded the 45 version off Napster from Neil's Play Me: The Complete Uni Studio Recordings...Plus! box set (MCA 088112824) (this saved me a small bundle from having to purchase the entire set for that one song!). The track runs 3:48 and the audience applause starts in cold and ends cold. In other words, the applause does not fade in or fade out which can be jarring to the listener. Is the applause on the original vinyl 45 this way as well, or does it fade in and fade out? And on the Gold CD does the applause start and end cold, or fade in and fade out?
Also, does "Walk on Water" on the Gold disc contain the 1:37 instrumental ending "Theme"? Thanks in advance!

There is no audience applause on the introduction of the vinyl 45 of Cherry Cherry and the applause at the end obviously fades out completely. So the comment in the review should say 45 version with the addition of audience applause on the introduction. Since Cherry Cherry appears in a segment of 6 live recordings on the new "Gold" cd, the audience applause is continuous between songs so technically there should be a comment regarding the ending audience applause not precisely matching the 45 also. This is the same version on the "Gold" cd that appeared on the "Complete Uni Studio Recordings" issued in 2002 and I should add to the existing comments in the 10th edition the same comments I just made above.
