The database lists a remix on a GH compilation.

(S)     (3:58)   &nb sp; SBK 22085 Greatest Hits (remix)

Was this remix issued on a promo CD single?

Yes it was. And it's the single mix and the version I heard on the radio.

The version on "Greatest Hits" is labelled as "New Extended Radio 7" ", so I assume this was a new mix done specifically for the compilation. I looked on Discogs and didn't see any listings for a Promo 45 or CD Single of this remix or the original 1992 song. There was, however, a Promo Umatic Single (which I had never heard of before until I read the listing).

By the way, there was a "For Jukeboxes Only" 45 for the song which had the Album Version. So that's another case where the 45 and Cassette Single versions were different.

I did not want to assume this, because I don't own the
promo CD single

I do have a file in my library labeled "Hit Version"
with the runtime of 3:38, upon quick listen sounds
similar to Amy Grant's "Every Heartbeat".

The "New Extended Radio 7"" from the GH compilation has
a runtime of 3:58.

A US promo CD Single doesn't seem to exist at all for this song, with either the remix on GH or the original version from their "Shadows And Light" album. The only promo CD single that Discogs has listed is from France, and that has the Album Version. If a US promo does exist, it hasn't been listed yet.

Hi all... I have 2 CD Singles for this underrated song, so hopefully, I can help clear up some of the questions.

Firstly, regarding the lack of a "promo" CD single for the U.S. showing on Discogs.com. I've read somewhere (it's been a long time, so I apologize for not being able to recall my exact source) that by this point, SBK Records was beginning to fail and to cut costs, they would often send "cut-out" copies of a commercial single to radio instead of doing a separate run of promos. Given that the commercial release for this song has 5 distinct versions of "Give It Up", it is plausible to think it could stand in for a radio promo easily.

The 'New Extended Radio 7"' used on the 2000 'Greatest Hits' was not in fact new, but is the same as the "Keith Cohen Mix" from the U.S. CD single, which is an edit of the Keith Cohen Extended Mix as appeared on https://www.discogs.com/Wilson-Phillips-Give-It-Up/release/1720977 - this promotional 12" . I do not recall this being the "hit" version in my area -- that would have been the "Hit Version" as mentioned earlier in this thread. But since the song peaked at #30 on the Hot 100, who can predict what would have become the most commonly played version of the song across the country at the end of the day? I certainly don't doubt that some areas opted for the Keith Cohen Mix, as it's a bit more loud/pop/CHR-sounding.

Here are the details for the 2 singles I own:

U.S. Commercial Single; SBK Records K2-19763:
1. Hit Version (listed 3:37; actual 3:43) {unique single mix by Glen Ballard}
2. Extended Mix (listed 4:37; actual 4:43) {longer edit of unique single mix}
3. AC Version (listed 4:10; actual 4:12) {edit of Glen Ballard LP Version}
4. LP Version (listed 4:49; actual 4:51)
5. Keith Cohen Mix (listed 3:59; actual 4:02) {alternate single mix - edit of Keith Cohen Extended Mix}
6. "Daniel" (their cover of the Elton John classic) [listed 4:01; actual 4:03]

Netherlands Commercial Single; SBK Records CDSBKS 36: (no listed times)
1. Hit Version (actual 3:43) {same as #1 on U.S. single}
2. Keith Cohen Extended Mix (actual 5:50)
3. Glen Ballard Extended Mix (actual 5:52)
4. AC Version (actual 4:10) {same as #3 on U.S. single}

The final entry in a run of 7 pretty flawless Top 40 hits for the girls, I still smile every time this one comes on. Please note that my "actual" times above indicate the length of the track: I did not study the fades to determine where the audio actually ends.
