all the entries in the db should be listed as the "lp version" because the cassingle and cd single issued as columbia 74355 contain a non-described version and it runs 3:13........it is just an early fade of the full 3:16 cd version......it just fades out before the next track starts which overlaps the song "all i want"

Normally, that would qualify as an LP length, but I don't think Pat differentiates if it's only a matter of a few seconds in the fade. Probably it should note that the song "tracks into the next selection" if that's the case.

Also, does anyone know what the "remix" version found on Retrospective is? To me, it doesn't sound any different than any other version I've heard. I don't have the actual LP to compare.

Are there two different pressings of the cd "Fear"? Ed indicates that "All I Want" tracks into the next selection on his cd but on my cd there is a full :02 space between tracks (matrix number 1A CK 47309 02 B)

Aaron, the packaging on the cd "Retrospective" states remix and I hear the drums mixed differently right from the start.

maybe i didn't explain the situation properly.....i don't know if the song tracks into the next selection....BUT...the cassingle runs about 0:03 shorter than the full cd version.....my mistake

Pat, the only copies of "All I Want" that I own are on Retrospective and on TM Century's GoldDisc, which was released shortly after the song was a hit in 1992. I compared the two versions, and I cannot hear any difference in the mix, which means TM Century's CD ALSO contains the "remix."

That being the case, I'm led to believe that the DJ CD single must have also contained the "remix" although it doesn't indicate a version on the TM disc. Unfortunately, I don't have the LP version to compare that version to these two.

Aaron:

I have the correct 45/LP version of "All I Want" on CD if you want to compare it to the remix. As Pat correctly notes, the percussion is mixed differently.

with all this banter about this thread i'll have to go back and review the cassingle versus the full cd version and report back....i just compared the cassingle version to the cd single version and they are identical....be back with my findings...

Ed, unfortunately, I don't have the original CD to compare with.

I just heard Ed's copy of the single. I cannot hear any difference between his single version and the "remix" on Retrospective in the opening drums. I didn't listen to the entire song, but the beginnings sound the same, and Pat says the difference is "in the drums right from the start."

My conclusion is that the single version = the remix on Retrospective. Without hearing the LP version, I'd guess that the LP version is a different mix, and an LP/45 version should be noted in the database.

Pat, do you disagree with Ed & me? Perhaps the vinyl 45 (if there is one) has the LP version, but the cassette and CD singles have the remix?
