pat

my cassingle issued as capitol 44437 is the full cd/lp version and runs 4:44.......the db states that the 45 runs 3:57.....is that really the case, or are you referencing the dj 45 as your source...my cassingle also states that the version is "remixed by chris lord-alge"........are there 2 versions of this single???

Now that you mention it, Ed, the video for that song uses the LP version but it sounds like a different mix than what was put out on vinyl/tape/CD. So perhaps there was a different mix floating around.

The (3:57) version must be a dj copy but I cannot find it at the moment to verify.

The version on The Best Of Joe Cocker (Capitol, 1993) sounds
like the same mix as is on the cassingle. The version on the CD has
the guitar solo edited out, and times out to 3:57. There may be,
very faintly, a bit more echo on the cassingle, but it just may the
difference between cassette and disc in sound quality.

Just some notes about this song: when it was released, it was on cassette-single only. There was a promo 45 on Capitol 79711, which ran 4:46 on both sides. Several years later a "for jukeboxes only" 45 was released. I don't have it, but I remember seeing it and am pretty sure it also ran 4:46.

It's possible the 3:57 version was a CD single promo, and not a vinyl promo.

Does anyone have promo CD single info for Joe Cocker's "When the Night Comes"? I know I've heard on the radio the 3:56-3:57 version that has appeared on CD with the guitar solo edited out.

Todd, we received two different promo CD singles for this song into the station, and here are the particulars (no listed times appear, on either of the promos):

Joe Cocker-"When The Night Comes" (DPRO-79710)
1-(Non-described version) (actual time 4:46)

Joe Cocker-"When The Night Comes" (DPRO-79898)
1-Edit (actual time 3:57)
2-LP Version (actual time 4:46)

For those interested, we played the "Edit" on-the-air, back in 1990.

The edit is the version included on The A List. Let me know if there's any interest in finding the edit points, and I'll work my magic on it tonight.

The promo single info for Joe Cocker's "When the Night Comes" has been incorporated into the database. Since there's currently no commercial single info listed, I asked Ed to double-check his cassette single copy and he tells me the song has an actual run time of 4:46.
