does anyone know what the differences are between the 45 version and the version from the "essential" cd.....the db states that the version there is
(a remix edited in an unsuccessful attempt at recreating the 45 version)
i have a version called "7 inch re-mix" on cdr from somewhere and it is identical to the 45 version.....anyone???

I think we have a whole thread about this somewhere.
The version on Essential was edited from the HiStory remix, which is slightly different to the 45 remix, because there is no finger snap on "Ah-cha-ooh."
There are two sources for the 7" remix -- the US promo CD single, and the US commecial CD3 single which came out in 1988.

Regarding "The Way You Make Me Feel", the database currently states:
(dj copies of this cd single run (4:25) the "7 inch remix", (7:52) the "dance extended mix" and (5:21) the "dance remix radio edit").
I just thought I'd add that the actual commercial 45 run time is 4:25. (Timing info once again courtesy of our good friend abagon. The printed record label time is 4:26.)

where is this most obvious?

How does the HIStory remix of "The Way You Make Me Feel"
differ from the mix on the original BAD album?
Has the HIStory remix replaced the original mix on the
current reissues of BAD?

Between the original album mix, the revised album version
(that seems to have later been used on HIStory), the
true 45 and the erroneous attempt at recreating the 45
version (whew!) all fairly easily available, you're probably
not at a loss for a short-to-medium-length version of this
song; however, if anyone is looking for details on the
"Dance Remix Radio Edit" as featured on the promo CD single
noted above, I have successfully re-created it using a vinyl
rip of the Canadian 12" single as a guide.
Editing details, starting with the Extended Dance Mix
running 7:54 on The Bad Mixes promo CD:
1.) Cut from 3:03.577 - 3:20.296 (edit is on the layered
MJ's singing "lonely")
2.) FROM THE RESULTANT FILE, cut 4:13.970 - 6:11.007 (edit
is on the downbeat)
3.) FROM THE RESULTANT FILE, cut 5:18.720 - 5:35.417 (this
edits out the very final chorus of the Extended Dance
version, and you have to cut all the way out to the last
"gone" to avoid some vocal tics in the background of that
very final chorus that are not present in the edit)
Edit runs 5:23.879 with trailing silence with edits at
3:03.577, 4:13.97, and 5:18.72.
