After listening to both the 45 and cd versions of "Mad About You" it appears to me that the only difference between these two is the :03 extended length of the 45 which I have yet to see show up on a domestic cd.

Does anyone know if the single mix of Belinda's "I Feel the Magic" (a later single from the same album that has "Mad About You") appears on CD anywhere in the world?

Gordon, interesting, I had never payed attention to those extra final seconds.

I grabbed four different compact discs where the song was included, and I found the longer 45 version on the "Mad About You" three inch UK CD Single (DIRM118).

Ed: In the late 80's, our 3-7PM DJ quit to go work for MCA. He was kind enough to send along to me a rare, 4-CD "MCA Hits Sampler." A total of 62 mostly Top 10s from 1980 to '88-ish on MCA and associated labels, like Belinda Carlisle on I.R.S. at the time. The extra :03 version is on this set. It specializes in 45 versions - got some good Jody Watley hit versions as well. No "I Feel The Magic", though. Only her 4 Top 10 hits were included.

Pat:

Abagon informs me the actual run time of his "Mad About You" commercial 45 copy is 3:37, which closely mirrors the timing info Ed reported earlier in this thread. (To be exact, the song runs 3:37.8 on Jim's MCA Hits Sampler CD, which is identical to the 45 length.) I bring this up because the database was never updated with the 45 run time info.

On the upcoming UK 29-CD-single box set on Belinda Carlisle on Edsel Records, according to this website:

http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/belinda-carlisle-the- cd-singles-1986-2014-28cd-box-set/
(you have to remove the blank before the "cd" for this link to work)

it contains the Mad About You "single mix". We know that the single was simply 3 seconds longer. Does anyone know if the UK actually had a unique mix for the single?

When labeling what versions were used on this box set, this site uses all these distinct terms: single mix, single version, 7" version, 7" remix, 7" edit and original 7" version. This could either be the site (or Edsel Records) paying close attention to detail, or simply listing the songs as they were listed on the original 7" vinyl 45s or CD single (although I doubt that's the case because most singles don't even indicate that they are a different version than the album.) So does anyone know if "Mad About You" has a unique UK 7" single mix?

Edison, the original UK "Mad About You" three inch UK CD Single
(DIRM118) has that 3 seconds longer mix, so it sounds like it was
the same as the US 45 version.

I believe this was another case of a lead single from an album getting a single remix (in this case by William Orbit) ahead of the full LP release, and the remix being replaced as part of the album master before whatever the original LP mix was could ever be released.

For "Mad About You", there is the 3-second addition on the fade of the 45 found on the above sources, as well as on the domestic 1994 IRS various artists compilation called On The Charts.

The LP version, found on Her Greatest Hits (1992) and a whole lot of compilations, fades from 3:12 to 3:35.

The 45 version on the 4-CD MCA Hits Sampler (1988) fades from 3:25 to 3:38. To my ears, it sounds like the same mix, just with different fade points.

Are you sure about this one? Because the database list the running time at
only 3:35 and not 3:37.

I have the song on the CD Pop goes the 80's but it only runs 3:31.

Indeed. The "Single Mix" (3:38) has a later fade than
the "LP Version" (3:35) and runs 3 seconds longer, as
crapfromthepast has pointed out.

I have that "On the Charts - I.R.S Records 1979 - 1994"
compilation. Despite stating on the back sleeve that it
is the "Single Mix", it is in fact the "LP Version".

Jason,

Thanks for pointing this out. I am fixing it my collection of top 40 hits, I had the LP version and didnt notice the difference was the fade...

No problem. The "Single Mix" is actually
hard to find on CD. I was glad that it
appeared on that 2015 singles box import.
