my commercial 45 issued as jive 1006 states a run time on the label as 3:46 but actually runs 3:40 and is identical to the version from the below cd

Hey, ed - although I can tell from your pic it was actually printed upside-down, I don't suppose you could re-post that photo of the back of the picture sleeve rotated 180 degrees??? :-) Although I never bought the vinyl 45 or cassette single, this was definitely my favorite SF song, lol...
Also, even upside-down, I couldn't help but notice the "RE" that appears after the "1006-7-J" catalog no. that is printed just to the right of the "Jive" logo on the back of your sleeve. So at the very least, your picture sleeve is a second printing (i.e., something was changed). Although I don't see a similar "RE" on the Side 1 label, could the 45 itself also be a second press??? (Perhaps the etching in the run-out groove gives some indication???) Do you possibly have the cassette single to compare either??? |

i just reviewed the run out goove and it states....."1006 - 7 J A - 1" so, nothing to indicate that the 45 itself was a reissue......very odd...i'll need to check my vaults to see if i have another, differing copy..... ------------- edtop40 |

| According to Charles Szabla's Goldmine book, "45 RPM Picture Sleeve Price Guide" the Jive 1006-7-J sleeve was a Poster sleeve issue. the "RE" was the regular sleeve. |

Hmmm, if that's not actually the back of the poster sleeve that cmmmbase mentioned above, then I have no explanation at this time. I never pursued tracking down the 45 or picture sleeve after ed posted his pics more than five years ago (can't believe it's been that long!)... :-) |

On this episode of "Unsolved Mysteries":
All CD versions I've found of "Touch Me" have a brief dropout in the right channel at 3:37. This dropout is NOT present on the 45. I bought the original Japanese pressing of her "Touch Me" album from 1986, and, amazingly, the dropout is there. So it was there on the album version from day one. All the so-called "45 versions" that I've found on CD so far, which only include the above-mentioned "Greatest Hits" and "Mystic Music Presents Red Hot," have the dropout, and also run one second longer than the 45 at 3:41. So neither of those are the "true" 45 version, just the LP version faded to replicate the 45. (The 45 ends with "This is the night," but those two CDs have an extra "touch me" after that line.) So question: Does anyone own a CD that does NOT have that dropout at 3:37? |

Neither Jim nor I have a promo CD, so we can likely eliminate that as a

I can confirm that the 45 has no dropout at 3:37.
I have the song on Madacy's Rock On 1987 and two separate multi-disc European collections on Disky called Greatest Hits Of The '80s. The Disky collections run about five seconds longer than the US collection. All have the dropout at 3:37. I do have one disc that doesn't have the glitch at 3:37. It's a largely instrumental version of the song, with no vocals at all during the verses. It's on a fairly obscure British 2-CD collection of deliberately awful songs called Chegger's Choice (1999). Way to go, Chegger's Choice!
