The original 45 has some overdubs that are missing on the 'Man Who Invented Soul' box set.

Welcome to the board - which artist does this song belong to?

I believe the artist "Paul C" is referring to is Sam Cooke.

Paul you have brought up another interesting question and all I can tell you is that the 45 is nowhere near the version on the Sam Cooke box set "A Man And His Music". Since I do not own any of Sam's early LP's on the Keen label, I cannot answer the question as to whether this may be an album version or not. Does anyone have this song on any Keen label LP?

After more than thirteen years, thanks to the recently released Abkco Box Set, The Complete Keen Years: 1957-1960, we now finally know that the version on The Man Who Invented Soul is the version from the Hit Kit album, released in October 1959 (more than a year and a half after the release of the single).

So far, the new box set appears to be strictly a European release. It contains the mono mix of "Only Sixteen", which has never been on a domestic CD.

I apologize for leaving the artist's name out of the thread title back on October 23, 2006. It was my first day on the board!

I believe that box set is a US release. The New York address on the package is ABKCO's address. Don't let the "Made In The EU" on the back of the box fool you. Lots of US releases are manufactured outside of the US these days.

Paul, here's a little trick that I'm betting several of us may not be aware of. If you click "edit" on your original post, not only will it allow you edit your message, but it will also enable editing of the thread title. (Only the person who started the thread can edit the title.)

Thanks, Aaron!

This would not be the only ABKCO box set for which copies sold in the US were not actually manufactured there. The Cameo/Parkway box was manufactured in Canada.
