Hey all,
I have a 1997 remix single of "in the air tonight" that has 2 tracks, the original 5:33 version and what claims to be a 1997 7:35 remix However, there is NO remixer credited on the disc of cardboard jewel case at all. Searching on the net, I found there was another single released in 1988 that had an "extended version" mixed by Ben Liebrand, clocking in at 7:33. Does anyone know if that is the version on the 1997 CD single, just rereleased? Also, the second track on the 1988 CD single was listed as an '88 remix by Huge Padgham. Does anyone have this 1988 single who can explain how Padgham's 88 mix differs from the original? It isn't what is listed in the database as the 45 version, is it?

I have the '88 single mix on a UK Now that's what I call music LP - #12. the drums aren't as up in the mix as the US single version - the intro is 52 seconds versus the 36 second intro in the US single. The cut is also 5:06 versus the US 4:58

I have a 1998 reissue Japan CD single (WPCR-2061), and it seems to contain both versions you mention.
Track listing and credits:
1. Extended Version (7:33)
Additional Production on 12" Version by Ben Liebrand
2.'88 Remix (5:07)
Remixed by Phil Collins and Hugh Padgham
3.I Missed Again (3:42)
For the first two tracks an asterisk refers to "Original version available on the "Face Value" album".
Hope this adds something.

That does indeed help. So the CD single issued in 1997 has the album version and the Ben Liebrand mix (unless he RE-remixed it for 1997).
