I want to double check this database entry: Is "Love Songs" the only domestic Carpenters CD that contains the 45 version of "Rainy Days and Mondays"? There's no extra reverb there, like all the other versions?

This site indicates that Love Songs contains the 1991 remix of "Rainy Days and Mondays", and he is generally on the money: http://www.grantguerrero.com/carpenters/lovesongs.html

I just listened to the version on Love Songs, and it definitely does not sound like a mix from the 70s.

On another note, the version of "Rainy Days" on the "Remastered Classics" Carpenters CD matches my original LP; I don't hear any additional reverb beyond what was on the original LP version. Does anyone have the 45 to compare with the Remastered Classics CD?

I just A-B'd the copy of the 45 that edtop40 was kind enough to send against the Remastered Classics Carpenters CD (8238935022). The 45 matches this version exactly. I have also compared the Remastered Classics CD against the original Carpenters CD and those versions match as well.

My conclusion is that the 45 and LP versions of Rainy Days and Mondays are the same, and that the Remastered Classics CD (8238935022) contains this version. I believe the database is incorrect where it indicates additional reverb and instrumentation for this CD.

As a general note, the Carpenters Remastered Classics series has been touted as the only complete source of all original LP versions (i.e. void of any of Richard's subsequent remixing & instrumentation). I have yet to find a case where a Remastered Classics CD differs from the original LP. Therefore, for cases where a Carpenters original 45 and LP versions were the same, the applicable Remastered Classics CD will give you the 45 version.

My commercial 45, which is stereo, has a listed time of (3:40), but an actual time of (3:35).

Resurrecting this old thread, has anyone noticed a distortion on Karen's vocal on the Remastered Classics Carpenters CD? It only appears during the loud passages, particularly the climax ("hangin' around, nothin' to do but frown, rainy days and Mondays always get me down"). It sounds as if the vocal track was overloaded in the mixdown.

It must have been a problem in the mix, because on the remix on the Singles 1969-1973 CD and subsequent remixes, her vocal is clear as a bell all the way through.

My turntable is out of commission at the moment, so I can't compare it to the original LP or 45. I assume the original vinyl had this problem as well. In any event, it's somewhat unpleasant sounding, but that may just be the way it is.
