In 1987 I bought the 45 of Glenn Medeiros's "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" shortly after it entered the Billboard chart. The 45 I bought back then did not have the saxophone solo in the intro.
At some point I misplaced that 45 and acquired the song on CD. The CD version contained the saxophone on the intro. Recently, I acquired another copy of the 45 that also has the saxophone. Does anyone else remember the version without the sax intro, and has this appeared on any CDs? |

Yes, I'm familiar with both versions. First the intro without sax was released on 45. Then the sax intro version was released, shortly after it started climbing the chart. The video has the sax intro. The LP has the sax intro. And most 45s have the sax intro. I have the 45 without the sax intro, as that is my favorite version. As far as I know, this version hasn't been released on CD anywhere (certainly not in the US - but I can't speak for all the overseas releases on CD -- Does anyone have any imports with this?)
So I think the database should be modified in the way that "Stir it Up" and "Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet" are listed -- noting the original 45 version and the hit version (--the only one on CD.) |

I've dug up some details regarding Glenn Medeiros' Spanish-language version of his 1987 hit, "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You"...
When his self-titled debut album was released that year, the original pressings in ALL THREE formats (i.e., vinyl LP, cassette, & CD) featured only nine tracks, and only the hit English version of "NGCMLFY". (Bought the cassette myself at the time.) The CD edition was on Amherst AMH 93313, and the front cover pictured Medeiros standing on some steps w/ pink railings. Pat does already show this original in the on-line db... By 1990, Medeiros had signed w/ a major label, and they also elected to self-title his new album that year, on MCA 6399. Of course, that 1990 album ended up doing even better, landing him two additional top 40 hits, the former going all the way to #1: "She Ain't Worth It" (ftg. Bobby Brown) and "All I'm Missing is You" (ftg. Ray Parker, Jr.)... In response to that album's success, Amherst went back and re-issued the 1987 album by the end of 1990, but made three major changes in the process: 1) The front cover art was now a close-up of Medeiros in a white shirt w/ his hand under his chin, 2) They re-titled it after its hit, Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You (to avoid confusion w/ MCA 6399), and 3) They added two bonus tracks, which were Spanish-language versions of "NGCMLFY" and "You're My Woman, You're My Lady" ("Si Me Faltas"), for a total of 11. The CD edition of this re-issue is on Amherst AMH 94401, and is still in print to this day. It's the version I just obtained, and while Pat DOES currently show the English version in the on-line db (which tells me he has this CD already), he neglects to list the Spanish-language version as well. It's track 5 ("Nada Cambiara Mi Amor Por Ti"), and I can report that it has an actual time of (4:07)... Oh, and attn: crapfromthepast. That being the case, while researching this song by Mr. Medeiros, I made an additional discovery, which you may want to track down (if you don't have it already). As a Hawaiian, he actually recorded a Japanese-language version of "NGCMLFY" as well! While it hasn't yet appeared on any U.S. CDs, it's included on the later Japanese versions of his 1987 s/t debut. anyone know if the the non-sax intro version of Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For you ever made it to cd? I have this version on a fairly scratched 45 and would like to replace it. I was surprised (and disappointed) that the version on Hard To Find 45s On CD, Volume 15: 80s Essentials & Beyond was the sax version which is readily available on many cds. ------------- Rick |

Sorry about that for Volume 15 80s Essentials. I really tried to convince "the boss" that collectors would love that early mix, but I was outvoted. Three others and the boss felt that casual Amazon buyers would want to hear the version they remember most. But I tried! And no, the original mix never made it on to the LP because by the time the LP was made, the remix with sax was already on the charts. MM |

I was one of the people that actually DID vote for the non-sax version of "Nothing's Gonna Change..." to be on the Eric CD, and Mark passed on my request to his boss. But I think Mark and I were the only ones voting for that and we got outvoted. Even if we hadn't gotten outvoted, I'm sure his boss would have picked the hit version anyway. I do hope Leonard Silver, the president of Amherst Records, releases it digitally. In fact, those people here who want Amherst to release the original, non-sax version digitally should email Leonard Silver at: info@amherstrecords.com
... with that request. If he gets enough requests, I could see him doing it. He even told me he was thinking about it, when I suggested it to him on the phone years ago. |

promojunkie asked if I had ever digitized the non-sax version, and I hadn't. Today I pulled out all the 45s I have for it, as well as the 12" single. The 12", as expected, has the sax version on B1, and sax is also heard on the intro of the extended version on side A.
I have two stock copies and two promo copies, and all of them are pressed on styrene. The stock copies both contain the sax mix. The promo copies are both without sax. Since it hasn't yet been stated, the sax version is not merely a case where the sax was overdubbed on top of the original mix. I didn't know about this "non-sax version", until I read
about it on the forum a few years ago. Here in Argentina the well-known successful "saxophone version" was always played on the radios. Never listen to this version (non-sax version), the only thing I found about it is a version from 1988 called "88' Style" that was included in the "Not Me" cd that does not have the saxophone and is a totally different mix from the known one. I think that this "88' style version" is not the version that Aaron is describing, I hope at some point I can digitize it to listen to it. That's correct that the '88 version in the YT video is not the same. The no-sax original version is very close to the original mix with only subtle differences. Mark M - I'd sent you a copy of the non-sax version from my 45. Didn't you
find it to be a lot different from the more famous version? From what kaqueno says above, maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it sounds like Aaron is working on a Glenn Medeiros CD for Amherst Records. If so, YES, can you include it? :) I remember when this first came out, where I lived outside Washington DC, this was picked up early and all I knew was the non-sax version. Then the video came out - my 1st exposure to the sax version. I don't like it as much. And all I have is a pretty scratchy, distorted version of the original mix on 45, and even that couldn't be cleaned up well. |

EdisonLite, is your copy a stock 45? Just
trying to determine if this mix was on stock copies or only on promos. The no-sax version really seems to have dropped off the face of the earth, kind of like the original no-sax version of Leo Sayer's "When I Need You" or the original LP Mix of The Go-Go's "We Got The Beat". I'm just reading all these posts, going back 4 months - and just saw this. I just checked my 45 because I didn't remember, but my 45 is a promo copy. If it's only available on that, then it's even more dropped off the face of the earth - because if it's also on stock 45s, there'd be more of a chance to find it. |

I did a cleanup of the no-sax version and it didn't come out very good either.

Answering Dan's question. The 45s I have are commercial
pressings. It's a gamble when purchasing this 45 because some have the sax and others do not. There is nothing on the label, that I have found, to distinguish the different versions. I have not purchased the promo 45 as I do not know which version it has. ------------- Rick |
